Having a clearout and found some crutches from a broken leg a few years ago. Perfect working order, free if anyone wants them.

They dont generally want them back due to hygiene health and safety etc. We still have a pair from a few years ago which we use to get things out of our car roof box! Seriously I have an inflamed knee cartilege due to a tear so am using mine when I find its too much; My point being to hang on to them as they may come in handy one day!

They do take them back - my son had crutches last year and we gave them back to the hospital when he was done.

If you google 'return crutches to NHS' you will see many trusts have had amnesties to get people to return crutches. I don't know which hospital didn't want yours back, roz, but that's certainly not the current policy.

Yes, I recently handed some back to Lewisham hospital. I know that King's take them back too.

Lewisham Occupational Health, OTOH, do not have any facility for receiving back frames etc. A bit odd if you ask me.

Thanks for the advice - I did try to take them back after I was finished but was told I couldn't, but good to hear others will take them.

I got crutches for a sprained ankle about 6 weeks ago and they said to return them.................must get around to it one day

I assume they clean them somehow- the nurse took them out of some sort of plastic wrapping before giving them to me. This was at Lewisham Hospital

There is a box for returned crutches in the Therapy Building reception (ground floor) at Lewisham Hospital. The Therapy Building is next door to the Register Office.

Ok, I can definitely recall Lewisham telling me not to bother returning them but due to public pressure and a need to clear out the house I will return them after Xmas to one of these places. Merry Xmas!

You could always try the Red Cross. They loan out things to people who need them. I'm sure they have a way of cleaning them first.
