Hullo everyone,

You might have wondered what's happened to the Green Chain Walk's Northwards extension from Crystal Palace through SE23.

In January dozens took part in a walk along the course arranged by Walk London. I led that walk and stated that the new route would be open shortly, probably in April or early May. Well, local government works in mysterious ways and it now appears that the 'Grand Opening' will be in "The Autumn". This might well have something to do with Southwark working towards the opening of their section for the Green Chain Walking Festival that's usually in September. Alas, there's no Walking Festival this year.

Anyway, expect some sort of event to celebrate those nice new green signposts in (Dare I say?) mid to late September.

Meanwhile, for those who want to experience London's first and finest long distance footpath network a little sooner, Walk London are offering two free, guided walks on Sunday 23rd May. All are most welcome!

The nearest one to SE23 starts at Crystal Palace Station at 10.45. and is expected to take about 2 hours. You can see more details at...

http://www.walklondon.org.uk/our_events_...asp?ID=258

The other is further afield and starts at 11.15 from Charlton station. It's about 8.5 miles long and will take about five to six hours. The good news is that it encompasses some of the best landscape in SE London and terrific views. The bad news is that you'll have to put up with me as walk leader! More details at...

http://www.walklondon.org.uk/our_events_...asp?ID=269

There's an online map of the route at...

Feel very free to ask me for any more details.

All the best

Ian Bull

Oh no - I'm away! Tess and I have been wondering when the next walks would be! Another time...

Best of luck with them, the weather should be decent.

Note that (if you're heading that way) a good portion of Crystal Palace Park will be more difficult to navigate on Sunday due to the triathlon taking place around there

Never mind! The Green Chain 'Megawalk' is coming along in September and long before that there will be a new 'rolling series' of walks on the GCW. Plenty of walkies for Tess this year!

Hullo Ryananglem,

Thanks for that. I've let Walk London know although, looking at the triathlon route, I don't think they'll be a clash. Thanks again - Ian.
