Had a lucky escape this morning. Walking to Sainsbury's from forest hill station side when literally 30yards in front of me a car mounted the pavement and crashed into the side of Sainsbury's luckily it went through the cycle racks outside sheering them off which slowed it considerably. Neither the driver or any of the pedestrians, some of whom were much closer than me appeared to be hurt. Car looks a write off

I saw the aftermath when the area was roped off.
scary!
the driver must have been going at speed to mount the pavement like that!
was he/she swerving to avoid something?
there were bycycles flattened under the car

First up, glad everyone is ok, dread to think what would have happened had the Big Issue seller been there, or the guy with the dog. *shudder*
Re the accident, and mounting the pavement and taking out the cycle racks. Not much speed is really needed for 1.5 tons of metal to do some serious damage, especially to flimsy street furniture.
Given how busy that section of street can be, that was most definitely a lucky outcome for all.

Yes agree! My other half said immediately 'Thats where the lovely guy with the dog usually sits!" so thank god he and others were not there at that time.
