I am looking at revitalising Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) within Forest Hill, in particular improving representation within Dartmouth Road, Devonshire Road and Canonbie Road. This is not an onerous task, much the opposite, as NHW has a beneficial impact upon those communities that already take part in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme as they are shown to help reduce crime in their areas. You could also liable to a discount on home insurance though this is dependant on your provider.

I have spoken to a great many of you and know that although open to the concept of NHW, the thought of being a co-ordinator and holding meetings every quarter is not feasible due to work or family commitments. I hope this message will alleviate these concerns.

NHW does not need to be run like a regime, all I ask is that as a resident of Forest Hill, you speak on a regular basis with your neighbours and pass information between each other on what is affecting your immediate areas and I can and will provide you all with the information needed on crime trends and offence locations for this to be done. This is also a two way process as it would allow you to contact me with any concerns that affect you and your areas.

NHW groups need to be manageable, so I suggest having no more than say, 20 households per watch area. If you wish to hold a meeting from time to time, you can and this can be done very informally over a coffee and I am more than happy attend and speak to you in and your group in person if you so wish.

We will be leafleting your roads on this subject in the near future and look forward to speaking to you and hopefully assisting you in setting up your own NHW.

Yours sincerely, Michael 195PL
