I heard from a friend that a house on Perry Rise was struck by the one lightning strike we had this afternoon, accompanied with a HUGE boom of thunder.
Apparently the chimney came away, and the roof was damaged.
No injuries were reported.

Wow! I hope that the people who live there are unharmed although I'm guessing a little shocked!

That was a huge crack of thunder this afternoon. I know I jumped!

That is one street over from me. I happened to be looking out the window in that direction at the time. The flash was so bright I was momentarily blinded and stayed a bit blinded for a good hour. The sound from the thunder was absolutely phenomenal too. I think that's the closest and biggest lightning strike I've ever experienced. Although not as close as the poor people in that house!

Great pic, just had a look on Google Maps to see the original size of the stack, its taken quite the beating.

Apologies for the pixilate pics, I just chopped them up quickly to meet upload regs.

Apparently no one was in at the time, so I am told.

rsh, I once experienced a ridiculously close strike while in Florida, close enough for the crack and crackle, scary but also very pretty stuff.

Cant help but sharing this video I shot, silent lightning in Florida, went on for over an hour, not a single sound.

First job this morning - reset my security lights on that side of the house. The light sensor must have been scrambled by the flash, they stayed on all night and were still on this morning.

Is this one of the houses near the church?
I'd go have a nose around, but it is raining..

Thanks Scotslass .
Further away than it seemed.

Makes me wonder what was so attractive about that particular stack.
Maybe the flu was steel lined, and earthed - making it a lightning conductor?
