I would suggest 101 or 999 depending on the situation as the safer Neighbourhood Team answerphone promises a reply within 72 hours! Details of our incidents were given to the team once the crime had been recorded by the attending officers from Catford.

Since American writers never use 300 words when 1,000 will do, I'll try to summarise:

* The only keys that are affected (in this story) are the newer ones where the key just has to be a couple of feet away from the car. You don't even have to press a button.

* There is a signal from the car which tries to 'look for' the key. If the key is about 2 feet away, the doors unlock.

* These gadgets amplify the signal from the car so that it can 'find' the key even if it's 50 feet away, inside your house.

* Voila - the car 'finds' the key and unlocks itself.

Solution? (Are you ready for this?) Keep the key in the freezer which acts as a 'Faraday cage', preventing the signal from finding the key.

or wrap the key in tinfoil saving you the embarrassment of deep frying your key by mistake.
