Since we are on to a new page I thought I should post that link again:
http://www.ukprideofplace.com

As far as what we win, I don't think we win anything. We just get pride in Forest Hill rather than the shame of losing to Croatia (sorry I meant the Catford Cat - must have been thinking of something else)

Maybe we should used our win as PR exercise and have a few London and National papers to write about Forest Hill and all its community focused residents. We had enough coverage as a property hot spot. It is annoying to be portrayed as a place only good for fairly cheap property and communiting to the City. It is indeed a nice place to leave in.

oops ..... had some red wine tonight, even more spelling mistakes. Having said that I still probably pronounce the two verbs in the same way, nightmare of a foreigner !! But I promise it was not a Freudian slip, I really like living in Forest Hill. Thanks Michael.

I have just voted and Forest Hill is in the lead having received 29% of the votes. How exciting - keep the campaign going.

I've just tried to check our standing and it doesn't show, as I originally voted from work. Tragically, I was forced to vote again to see the percentages.

Not that I would ever suggest such vote rigging to anyone with access to more than one internet account .....

... but your partner, children, or friends may wish to vote from your home which will allow you to view the results.

actually, and again, I wouldn't condone such actions, but if you wipe your cookies and wait a day or two, voting more than once from the same machine is possible...I believe Smile

sorry, Michael...didn't read your post before i replied. Yes, and there may be dogs, unable to vote due to lack of opposable thumbs, who must also, surely, be allowed to vote by proxy. FH is clearly better for dogs than Lewisham High street. We won't talk about the cat in Catford - wouldn't want to cloud the issue for any dog wishing to vote...via its owner..for FH Smile

I don't think we need to cheat to win this, as long as real people keep voting. We are well ahead and we wouldn't want to be disqualified.

Yeah, we deserve to wine it fair and square, so there is no need. In fact I have heard how even schools in Sutton regularly come to the Horniman for 'field trips' .. can't imagine the Cat gets that!

... and I'd slap your wrists or rap your knuckles, but rapping your wrists seems unnecessary cruelty

I hope they publish the results soon. I voted for FH ages ago, and note the poll closed yesterday. Fingers crossed...

I presume that the standings remain as they are, and we win at 30% with the Catford Cat second at 14% and Blackheath Village third at 13% and no one else over 10%. I'd say that was a pretty convincing win! What do we get as a prize?

I hope Lewisham Council take due note - we may get a little more attention as a result. (It may also save the Catford Cat's bacon as well....)

Article in February edition of Lewisham Life recognises the Horniman won this competition. Unfortunately it fails to mention Forest Hill when people did vote for 'Forest Hill and the Horniman Museum'. It also did not mention 'the award-winning Horniman Gardens provide a green oasis with panoramic city views' as detailed in the competition description.

A few pages later other favourite buildings in the borough are mentioned: Horniman Museums gets another mention, as well as Forest Hill Library, and Welcome Aboard on Horniman Drive. Slightly outside SE23 is the Rivoli ballroom which gets a mention, and finally Manor House Library which is closed for 2008. So again Forest Hill is rightly recognised as the nicest place for architecture in Lewisham.

Finally from Lewisham Life is a profile of Sydenham and a reminder that it has been ages since I have been to Wells Park. I may have to rectify that this afternoon.
