unusually, I agree with Brian. We are all suffering low water pressure, not no water at all. it is fantastically disruptive to hundreds of people when a school is closed at short notice. I can't help thinking that with a bit of effort and imagination they could have kept Perrymount open. We got a text message telling us the school would be closed at about 7.30 this morning. We are OK, my partner is not working at the moment, but for families with both parents working it must be a real problem.

According to the school website, they have no water. According to press reports, some areas lost supply completely. It is very inconvenient for parents, but I don't think schools take such decisions lightly.

We had no water at all until about 10am.

I can't believe someone is equating closing a school with no water supply with political correctness!

On a more serious note, this is about the seventh or eighth time our water supply's been cut off in only four years in this area.

I think you would not want to be in a school without water. I was for three days without any children once when the tanks were being replaced. The smell would be unpleasant. I suspect that the risk of spreading disease is too high to take.

Actually, I do know what they did during the war. They made provision at my school by providing a tank of water in the playing fields. I don't know all the details, though.

Is anyone still having any problems with this? Not on the scale of when the main in Brixton went, but in general just lower water pressure than what you'd consider normal?

Mine is back to normal. If yours is still low, let Thames Water know as you may have a local leak.

Water pressure has always been low on the upper floor here in Gabriel Street. It's not the boiler. There always seem to be water leaks locally, particularly along the western section of Honor Oak Park. Worn-out drainage and mains? Increasing demand on supplies from new conversions?

If they increase the water pressure the mains will burst!

Codding apart, that might well be part of the problem. If our mains here still date from Victoria, they must be getting decidedly fragile by now. And the chance of an upgrade anytime soon is I'd say zilch.

Like HOPcat I wonder if there is a generalised water issue in the area - I lived in SW London before here and the water never went off once in over 20 years!

There seem to be more issues with loss of supply and low pressure than anywhere else I've ever lived.
