It probably is a starling, as they are excellent mimics. There was one near Catford Station that did a mean impression of a phone ringing.

I know this was a couple of months ago now, but it was a lightning bolt which struck in Camberwell. The loudest bang I've ever heard and it was way too close for comfort!
