Hi all

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this! http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/me...ation-for-
1291 people have signed this petition and 209 are still needed. I didn't start this petition, but just think it's good for everyone to know whats going on so that they can express any views for or against!
There is a consultation meeting this Saturday. Details are posted in another thread. The petition target will keep increasing automatically as people sign up, that's the way the site works.
If I am reading the petition correctly, it is neither pro/anti development of the park but merely asking whether the current proposal is the correct way of proceeding rather than apparently 'giving' the land on a long lease to a Chinese company without allowing it to be available to any other parties.

So you can agree that it might be a good thing to have some development at the top end of the Park (which, let's face it, can be a little desolate and empty much of the time) but still sign the petition so that there might be a little more say in what might go there.
Hi Michael

I saw the thread by Tim, thats why I posted this thread which I was asked to sign and RT on twitter by a great CP event (I'll keep my own views to myself on here as it's the right thing to do) so locals can express their own views either way, I just think it's best for everyone to know whats going on and have their say if they want too.

I can't make the meeting on Saturday as I'm working, but please keep me updated if you are going along, and Doh! as you know I'm useless with IT and computers so didn't know about the target increasing automatically.

So thank you and see you soon.

So what does a change.org target mean? Are they ever reached? Is there some algorithm such as

target = [base target] + ? * [time since petition launched]

which would mean that if the petition was keeping up the momentum, with people were coming on board fast enough, then it would get there? Is there anything in particular which happens if the target is reached?
Something like that Tim. But if you want a proper explanation I suggest you get in touch with them directly. I suspect they use round numbers which show that you are between 60% and 80% of your 'target' at any point (once you get beyond 200).

This in no way discredits the petition for consultation on Crystal Palace proposals, the fault is with Change.org, but it does help encourage people to sign up - just like the Blue Peter appeals where they set an easy target and then kept adding new rows, as it encouraged people to give more. I think JustGiving and other sites have similar options available. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's meeting to see if I can actually find out some information about the proposals. I'll be disappointed if they are not able to answer some questions I have.
As you know, Michael, I don't mean this as a criticism, but tomorrow's event will be largely PR. If you have any questions which might stump them, then it would be worth notifying them in advance, if you actually want answers.
