Is it my imagination of has the timing changed? Previously I think Honor Oak Road only had green lights for 12 seconds out of every 90 seconds. Using the junction this evening I felt that I was waiting for far less time.
Have TfL finally taken notice of our complaints and changed the timings?
My main concern here Michael is crossing the road . I have mentioned before. Why is there not a green light for pedestrians
Brian,
That is a very good question. I am often tempted to use my car because crossing roads is difficult and dangerous. Perhaps if more crossing facilities were provided for pedestrians there would be fewer cars on the road.
Agreed that it would be useful to have a crossing there - although might also make it easier for the bagsnatcher...
I suspect TFL would tell us pedestrians that we should use the crossing on London Road, walk up the other side of the hill and then use the crossing at the top of the hill to walk back down again if we want to be safe.
There are so many 'old-style' pedestrian unfriendly junctions around where the walker ends up spending time crammed onto traffic islands with fumes all around them or which have a ridiculously long 'wait for green man' time where users get frustrated and end up risking dodging traffic to get across.
I do appreciate that road users don't like getting stuck in jams either - and don't have the option of dodging pedestrians if in a hurry. But given that most councils etc are trying to reduce speeds currently in residential areas, surely having more crossings that drivers have to look out for, wouldn't really create more jams and might make things safer? Note that I'm not suggesting zebra crossings which can cause havoc on busy crossings with one car getting through at a time.
I've wondered this, Michael: I'd noticed that in the last few weeks I've been caught at the lights on the bus going up towards the Horniman more times than ever before, allowing for variations in traffic.
Anyway, I need to do two journeys by P4 this weekend, so let's hope so.
Surely TFL cannot expect one to cross the S Circular twice to avoid crossing HOR.
Compared with some of the places crossings appear this road has a good case.
The t-lights at the bottom of HOR seem to be the same. At various times of the day traffic is backed up as far as Manor Mount and sometimes even higher. A year ago I was told by TfL that the reason for the short 'Green' for HOR is that they wish to discourage traffic from using HOR! The reason for any blockage in London Road in the London direction is the length of 'Green' vehicles get when coming down Sydenham Rise, turn right into London Road and then to speed up HOR. The road pacifiers, speed bumps or whatever, do not do their job, unless one is driving a low slung car, like a Ferrari. The laden or unladen 8-wheelers just bounce from one bump to another before or after depositing part of their load after they turn Left at the bottom of HOR - but that's another story, all to do with the new temporary lights in Forest Hill Road, near thye Doctors' Surgery.
