You have probably seen there is a large Wilmotts to let sign out front now, so not sure if that counts as news. So hopefully they find someone soon.

Okay I can provide you with a rumour daveherne! I've heard it could be about to become a children's bookshop/community hub. Hope that makes you feel better about the forum!

that sounds nice.
i would have added children's bookshop to the list, but i thought it would not happen these days!

I hear this term 'community hub' quite a bit, can anyone actually tell me what it means?
Is it where people go to hang out and talk to people they don't know?
If that place was closed down due to the previous tenant not wanting to pay the rise in rent, I find it hard to believe that a children's bookshop and 'community hub' would take its place.

It was not closed because of the rent rise.

I think, unlike adult novels that easily transfer to e-books, there will always be a good market for children's book, especially picture books. So long as they were decently priced I would definitely buy from there. Also, maybe it could also doa trade in second-hand childrens' books.
Anyway, this is all very interesting, as a friend of mine has talked about doing this very thing in this shop so maybe she's spreading the rumours herself! If not, I'll tell her to get in quick!

yeah, me too. buy loads of books for the kids. i think though if you can combine it with something else like a space to have kids activities/readings in that is even better.

The sign has gone, so I assume it has been let.

the mystery continues.

Great news. The HOP Art Gallery was a hive of activity this afternoon with workmen when I passed by. I was introduced to the new proprietor who has taken on the lease, Rebecca - a lovely local lady and her adorable children. The good news is that Rebecca confirmed it is going to be an Art Gallery again which is wonderful for the street.
Unfortunately, the "owner" has dramatically reduced the space available to Rebecca. The back area which had been John's (previous Gallery owner) workshop, small kitchen/toilet area has been reclaimed by the owner and turned into accommodation. I imagine this to be a miniscule bedsit/studio.
This leaves Rebecca with only the "front shop" area for the Gallery and no "facilities". I told her she was surrounded by good neighbours in the adjoining shops etc who I'm sure would not see her stuck.
I wished her all the best for her venture with the HOP Art Gallery and I assured her we'd all support the Gallery when it opened. It will be really good to see another empty unit in the street being utilised again.
