Full Version: wanted: bike storage space

Hi,

I have recently moved to the area (Wastdale road near the Railway Tavern pub) so first of all a hi to fellow locals on se23.com

I am loving the neighbourhood. However, one thing that is not great is that I now have little by means of storage space for my beloved bike. I am therefore keeping her outside my flat at the moment but worry it's only a matter of time before it (or part of it) either gets stolen or vandalised.

So, perhaps optimistically since it would be a bit of an imposition, I was wandering if anyone who lived nearby might have a spare bit of space (e.g. in yard, garage, shed) they would be willing to let me use to store it in return for a small monthly fee.

If you would be kind enough to consider this and want to discuss, do please drop me a line.

Thanks in advance,
Neil
Hi Neil,

I dont have any quick solution, and in fact I have the same problem at my place, but you could have a look at these links and they might help the council provide a solution for those like us who have this problem.

They are looking at getting something similar to these installed in Lewisham

Hi,

Thanks a lot for response and information. Seems like a great initiative this.

I registered my interest using the online form when I first moved here but haven't heard anything further yet. I will try emailing the contact at the council the blog also suggests. If I get a response with any more details such as timeframes/location I will post here to keep those interested informed.

Best,
Neil
Hi,

This is the response from the council about the progress of the scheme i case anyone is interested:

We do have such an initiative but demand is high and initially resources don't match it. We are undertaking a selection process and will deploy the facilities where the demand is greatest while seeking more resources to meet further demand. At the present time I would not have been able to tell you what chance there was of having a Bikehanger installed in your road even if you had told me which road you live in.

However you mentioned that you live in a flat. You can increase your chances of your location being selected by getting the support of other tenants who cycle and ideally from the landlord too, especially if there is a possibility of the Bikehanger being installed on the landlord's property.
