It being a calm, clear evening yesterday without an early moon I thought I would try and evaluate whether or not the new directional street lighting has improved the incidence of skyglow locally. After 15 minutes to allow for dark adjustment I had a good look at the sky in all directions and despite the obvious background glow concluded that there is a difference. Gone is the sickly yellow light which used to bathe my garden and as a consequence the sky seemed darker to me. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has had an opportunity to assess the difference.
Not sure the directional element works for me. I can't see the skyglow for the dazzling light beaming through all windows at the front of our house. It's like the clip from E.T. when the floodlights are eerily shining in to the house. We now have a nostalgic longing for the familiar orange glow...
Yes you obviously have to be out of the direct line of the new lights to notice the difference.
