I am writing to let you know about travel disruption in the Forest Hill area, while Thames Water carries out emergency repairs on a collapsed sewer. This will start from 21:00 tonight and is expected to last several days.

The A205 London Road will be restricted to one lane in both directions at the junction with Devonshire Road, outside Forest Hill station. There will be no right turn from the A205 London Road into Dartmouth Road. Road users are advised to avoid the area.

Bus routes 176 and 197 will be diverted via Sydenham Hill and Kirkdale and will not serve London Road, Forest Hill station and Dartmouth Road. Customers are advised to use nearby stops in Lordship Lane or Kirkdale.

To check for future updates on the roadworks, please visit http://www.tfl.gov.uk

Third time unlucky.

There's been a leak coming from that T junction outside WHSmith for months now. Why has it taken this long for Thames Water to figure it out?
There are leaks all over the place. Cant believe they are having to repair this one AGAIN! seems like yesterday the kids were running up and down the closed off street outside Sainsbury's.
Discovered this evening that you can't turn out of Kirkdale into Thorpewood Avenue - presumably to ensure that eastbound diverted traffic doesn't try to cut through to Dartmouth Road. (But where will it go instead?)
Email from Tfl only tells half the story! At 10pm tonight I found if you're travelling along Dartmouth Rd towards Forest Hill you can't go straight on at the traffic lights onto the South Circular towards Catford either so presume the 122 must be on divert as well!
From TfL.

Quote:
From 2100 Thursday 9 until 1700 Wednesday 15 May, Routes 176 and 197 will be diverted towards Penge / Croydon, between Lordship Lane, Wood Vale and Sydenham, Woodman. Bus stops B E and F at Forest Hill Station will be closed to all routes.

Bus stop B is the one outside Santander for routes 185 and 356, E is the 122 bus stop outside Barclays and F is the 122, 185 and 356 directly outside the station.

The traffic camera there is online and you can see what it's like before setting out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/london/t...0000103756

The camera shows the parts of the road that are closed but not the traffic, so not terribly useful. In fact, it might be misleading, as the traffic on the right is the traffic that is tailing back, but you can't see how far. The traffic on the left is free-flowing because it has just passed the temporary lights. So it looks like the road is clear when it isn't just off-camera.

I was up in Forest Hill mid-morning. Traffic was slow, but moving. I couldn't see how far up London Road and Dartmouth Road it was tailing back. Traffic turning into the South Circular from Waldram Crescent wasn't too bad, with the queue only going as far as Finches.
According to the travel report on the radio just now the tailback starts at Dulwich Common in one direction and Brockley Rise in the other.
Google Maps traffic view has been showing the same all morning, although it doesn't look quite so bad on traffic cameras west of Horniman from TfL:

No tailback along Dulwich Common now, according to the jam cams. Clear all the way up to the old Harvester, normal tailback below the Harvester. Most of Standstead Road also looks fine. Just the normal tailback to the Co-Op.
Lot of cars stuck on Honor Oak Road are ignoring the No Entry sign at the top of Manor Mount and driving down the one-way stretch. As if traffic on MM wasn't bad enough already......Mad
Post photos of the offending cars on the forum (and send copies to ForestHill.SNT@met.police.uk)
I would be in favour of temporarily making Manor Mount 2-way when there are these types of road works on the South Circular. But this would have to be official, not at the discretion of the driver!
They have police support officers directing pedestrians at Forest Hill station - perhaps they need to redeploy one to the top of Manor Mount to tell people to behave.
OK here's one. Photo quality rubbish, but makes the point!

Dartmouth Road at 1pm was clear. It appeared to affect those using London Road and Devonshire Road from Waldram Park Road more.

Routes 176 and 197 are serving Forest Hill going towards Dulwich only, but in comparison to the other closures, it's more of a minor inconvenience.
Excellent photo. It looks like the registration is R455 VPE
If you see this car parked on your street you might want to ask them why they are above the law.

This evening the traffic seemed to be moving pretty well with the police taking over from temporary traffic lights which always cause tailbacks.
While the email stated the works would last 'several days', the London Works website has them logged as lasting until 17/05, which is Friday.

I have asked the police to keep an eye on Manour Mount in rush hour as the driving standard demonstrated by those people who are above the law is just shocking.
Some quite ridiculous behaviour by drivers as usual in these situations. Traffic is indeed terrible, but no excuse for the stupidity displayed in such pics
Not just that - I was cycling along the South Circular this morning (having turned left out of Davids Road, heading in Catford direction), when a driver pulled straight out in front of me out of Devonshire Road, heading toward FH station (having looked straight at me before doing so!) and I only narrowly missed crashing straight into her - she carried on oblivious while everyone else just shook their heads in disbelief at such recekless driving.
