A new Clapham? Hmmm
I've read the Jonathan Meades book, and it has some very evocative descriptions of Forest Hill, especially Ringmore Rise and the surrounding roads. He clearly has a fascination with the area, and you can often find him eulogising about the views from the heights of SE23.
In Mo Hayders Birdman book, the main character lives in between Honor Oak and Brockley train station and runs in Hillyfields park
Anyone else read The Living Hedge by Leslie Paul?
Actually, it's not fiction but about someone growing up in the area between the wars.
Dave takes his son to the Honor Oak Reservoir in Will Self's Book of Dave
Spike Milligan writes about Riseldine Road in his war memoirs and played in a jazz band in St Cyprians Hall before being drafted into the war.
Siobhan Clarke's parents, Eve and Teddy live in Forest Hill. Reference can be found on pages 27 and 276 of 'The Naming of the Dead' by Ian Rankin.
