Just been to get my fish from Grant with his van at FH station, he looked moved. He was moved but not because of seeing me, three guys from Network rail turned up this morning and told him he could no longer park where he does. He has been there nine years and the van for fifteen.
They couldn't tell him why he had to move but that he had to.
Good way to make friends that.

If his van is where it usually is then cannot see how it causes a problem. I am surprised it is Network Rail land.

surely that is a public road?
If its the one outside the bookies he is probably blocking the right of way they are using to do work around the back at the mo.

Yes it is. NWR have told him move, full stop. No reasoning or excuses. Seems slightly harsh to me.

If this continues, I sense a letter-writing campaign coming on, based on Network Rail being made aware that Forest Hillers consider Grant to be a treasured local amenity (given there's no other fresh fish locally other than Sainsbury's), if not an institution, and if he's pushed out, we will hold them responsible (with attendant lousy publicity).
Not that we can exactly boycott NWR, but we could make life very annoying for their public relations people, having to respond to constant questions about it....

Grant is not although I wish he did. The FHS Chairman is in a fair land from whence biltong comes.
Having seen a skip-lorry reversing into the lane this morning, I assume he might have been told to move because his van was blocking access to the yard.
Given Network Rail's lack of interest in the condition of the subway, despite it having been brought to their attention many times over the years, it wouldn't surprise me if NR had been oblivious to the fish van parking there until now. Hopefully once the work in the yard has finished they'll sink back into their usual state of disinterest and normal service of Thursday morning fish-selling can resume.
The strange thing is that where he was origionally parked he was not a hazard, where he now has to park he is. Go figure!
