This morning at around 6.00 a.m. my husband saw a woman dresed with a Lewisham Council badge opening up the recycling bin, check and take notice of what was inside.
Has any early bird seen anything like this going on and why?
Yep, saw a couple of people doing this on Colfe Road last week.

I guess they need to see if people are managing to put their brains into gear or not and recylce properly.
It's probably related to the fact that the rules on what we can recycle changed a few months ago. They may be doing a survey to see if people are adding the new stuff, as well as generally checking compliance.
or maybe something more sinister!.........http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/bod...ter-137601
jeez! Quite a shocker!
I think that Mirror article refers to the body found in a house in Stanstead Road.

When Lewisham Council first introduced wheeliebins I was told you could put anything in them!
Yeah but not a body! Poor chap.
I only found out yesterday that the rules have changed from a Lib Dem leaflet - why didn't the council tell us you can now recycle more stuff?
They did but it was a bit of a whisper really. Shame as I would have thought they would be more proud of this.

I found out via Twitter and I think it was mentioned on a thread on this site. I know people who saw it in Lewisham Life (ironically often first in the recycling bin I suspect) which doesn't in any case get to all residents. Unless you happened to be trawling the Lewisham Council website, you had to find out by word of mouth I guess.
What they should have done is slapped new stickers on all our bins. We would have noticed as soon as we went to put something in the bin, and the bin men could have done it on their way round.

I can't believe somebody didn't notice the thread I started on the subject in December! http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5546

Michael, I can't believe it, is this a suggestion that people should go looking for official communication from their council via SE23.com?

You are joking, right?
there was a lot of info in various papers, info came also with council tax bill etc. in addition to se23 forum, love perry vale etc.
We have just received our council tax bill. Didn't see anyting about it in there...

Joke, moi?
In the words of Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council:
There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. … What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams.

The council did include details in Lewisham Life, but I can't imagine that anybody (other than a Vogon) would argue that this alone would be sufficient to communicate the changes to all residents.

Phew. Yes, good use of a Douglas Adams quote, LOL. Mind you, according to the Guide, I recall there is no life at all in the Universe anyway, so we shouldn't be concerned. :-)
Didn't they put a leaflet through the door to inform us of the changes? I remember I read it on lewisham Life but vaguely remember the leaflet left in the post box.
There's information about it on the back cover of the 'Your Council Tax' leaflet that came with the council tax bill for 2012/13. (But I only noticed this by chance as I was about to put said leaflet in the recycling bin... and it only tells you what you can recycle, not what you can't.)
Have to confess to having missed the "update" back in December, and have blindly continued to be frustrated by the various restrictions on what I could/could not recycle.

My frustration was mis-guided however, as the new list (which I have now read) covers pretty much everything.

Well done lewisham!!!
