We are famously not celebrating the wedding. PM me if you want our address and want to join us in our garden doing a lot of not celebrating and indeed not even thinking about it all.
Wondered how long it would take you Roz. For something you are not interested in you sure make it known. Upset because the anti royal party in London was cancelled?
Go and be un royal on your own.
Please tell me why I should celebrate exactly? Like any young couple, they are entitled to their big day and to enjoy their life but I don't see why everyone else has to bear the majority of the cost of a wedding for what are extremely wealthy families when benefits are being cut and basic services are being challenged and life in the UK is going to be much much harder now for everyone on low and even average incomes.
The Royal Family always had glamour during hard times and people loved to see it but we have surely moved on and people by now ought to be a lot more critical about giving these people celebrity status and a lot less willing to live their lives through them.
The Dutch have the right idea. They have respect for them, but they don't go overboard like we do here. We are one of the few countries who remain subjects not citizens. Doesn't that worry people?
People, wake up and get angry that your taxes are going into giving these people their nuptials. Can you afford it?

Roz, it's nothing to do with wealth or glamour or 'celebrity status'(!). We want to celebrate the wedding because (potentially) it strengthens the dynasty and therefore helps safeguard the stability of our country and the continuity of our political institutions.
God save the Queen.
The Dutch have a huge amount of respect for their royal family and my Dutch friends have as the highlight of their year the Queens Day parade.
Why spoil it for others just because you dont like the Royal Family.
Pointless day - if I worked I would rather be in work!! Anybody have to work want me to work for them instead??? haha

Sick and tired of the royal wedding!

I don't know why people are so spiteful generally about the Royal wedding. These events are something we do well in this country and if my taxes are involved..... .well...... there are a lot of things and people I would rather not make a contribution to
The Dutch respect their royal family because their Royal family respects them and aren't leeches neither unlike in the UK do they sit at the head of a a class system and establishment which favours its own over those who work hard and achieve.
Just because I refuse to pander to royalty doesn't mean I want to pander to the SWP, so I won't be going to Hilly Fields either but probably heading out into the wildnerness somewhere for the day!
I am glad Roz that you have not associated yourselves with the so called Socialist Worker Party. How many are actually working outside featherbedded jobs is another matter.
I doubt if I will watch the wedding but I wish the couple and their family a great day. All those who want to watch and have parties good luck to them.
I'm not exactly a Royalist, but I haven't got an issue with the wedding being celebrated or having a public holiday for it. (I get a day off for it in addition to Good Friday, Easter Monday and May Day)
After a recent family bereavement, I'll be glad to see a celebration of someone else's next stage in life.
I'm not fussed about the Royal Wedding but will welcome a day off.
However having seen Pixy's post, I don't think I can imagine a more joyless and pompously earnest alternative. Suggested issues to discuss??

The irony of having a celebration to not celebrate the wedding - is that you are enjoying an occasion becasue of the wedding! I hope there is also some banter around the AV vote. Sounds like a blast, I shall get there early with a large veggie pie that my wife will cook, some warm but low alcohol beers to share, a warm pair of socks and my new open toe sandles..
I've changed my mind having heard that she's descended from Durham miners....this is really a coal face wedding.
I won't be watching, however my Mum is travelling down from Rochdale for the weekend to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the celebrations, she's been looking forward to it for weeks. There are 1000's like her too, going into London for the day, so if it brings pleasure and excitement to these people then surely its a good thing.
As for the tax burden issue, it doesn't stack up. Some people may find it hard to believe but there are a lot of people around the world (living in countries that don't have Royal Families), that are captivated by ours, and travel here in great numbers every year to visit the palace etc, whilst spending thousands in hotels, shops, restaurants. The money the Royal Family bring into the country outweighs the cost.
Apart from Bonnie Blue, nobody on this thread has actually admitted that they will be watching the event on TV. Anyone else prepared to come out? Or, like me, do you think it's safer to carrying on living a lie (and avoid the risk of being slagged off by angry Roundheads like Baboonery - 'nauseating claptrap' - and Roz)?
