Hello fellow Forest Hillians!

Im thinking of hosting a street party on Elsinore Road for The Big Lunch Thumbsup (see this link for info http://www.thebiglunch.com/)

Im looking to host it on the lower half of Elsinore Road. (Between Woolstone Road and Vancouver Road) As we could host it for all those in the Kilmorie, woolstone and Perry Vale catchment! Me and a few neighbours tried to do this last year but missed the final submission date. However 2011 is the year!!

So if anyone has any thoughts or wants to get involved let me know! I will be looking for people to bring a yummy dish of food, Gazebos, bunting, tea cakes, music etc! So if you know any mean cooks or local bands let me know!! Smile

Thanks, Sophie xx
Hi Sophie

I am really interested to read this.
I am on Hurstbourne road - the next road along to Elsinore. I am also on the lower end between Vancouver and Woolstone.

I was talking to my neighbour about whether we could organise a Big Lunch on our end of the street - we didn't do anything last year but I know Fermor Road did and it sounded great.

I am new to this so not exactly sure what it involves but lets keep in touch - I will keep you posted about our developments!

Jane
Hello Jane!!

Well the Elsinore party can be for all the Perry Vale catchment. The more the merrier! (You included Wink )

I have made the initial application to have the road closed, so its just a case of waiting to hear back from Lewisham with regards to my request. And guess what, half way through typing this they just emailed back to say that its been agreed!! Woop Woop! So onto the next step I go! You need to email your request to Dave Wheeler -Dave.Wheeler@lewisham.gov.uk

Does any one know any local bands / singers who will want to get involved?
Well done! Thumbsup
Great idea!

Count me in if you need a hand

We had one in Fermor Road last year which was great fun
great idea, we live at that end of elsinore road, would love to get involved
We used to do this years ago. The street parties were always good fun.
Hello mayazrah & mio!

Me and friends will be doing face painting, games and lots of bits! The thing I would love is a local band to play. Maybe a folk band? I'm not too sure where to start looking :/ Hopefully people will help with tables, chairs etc!

Anyone have any ideas of things they can do/bring to the party?

Yay for SE23 street parties :D

Sophie,

Is that your 'big lunch' event? If so, are neighbors from Shipman Road welcome?
Hi Sofie,

Can provide table and chairs. Will bring some food to share. Sadly don't have the musical talents your after. If you don't get live music or even if they can't perform all day, we live at the right end of the street and weather permitting can have our fairly powerful hifi in the garden.

Let us know if there's anything else you need or whether you want to have a chat about the big day.

cheers
Do you need to get people to move their cars out of the road on the day?
Hello theirpuppet!

Yes that is my event, it looks like theres one on Hurstbourne too. Is this yours Jane2?

mayazrah, Thank you so much for helping out! I think if everyone chips in with chairs, tables etc we should have enough! Smile and yay for the hi-fi!

Imagine all the different types of food there will be!! YUMMM :p

I will be knocking on the doors on our road soon, as I need confirmation from the neighbours that they agree! All our neighbours I have met are lovely and want to get involved, so hopefully their wont be a problem!

Sherwood, the cars do need to be removed. The road is closed from 6am so they will be have most prob be moved the day before! We live in a very residential area with no parking restrictions on surrounding road, so I cant see this being a problem!

Thanks! Sofi
So the cars will probably be parked in nearby streets.

I live in Hurstbourne. Is someone organising a street party in my road?
Hello Sherwood,

The website says someone is organising one on your road. You can see on http://www.thebiglunch.com

Surely this is a good thing?! Thumbup

Hi

Yes, I am helping to organise the party on Hurstbourne Road! But only the 'lower' end i.e. the section between Vancouver Road and Woolstone Road (numbers 71/66 to 92/95, plus the corner houses). Sorry for those on the other end of Hurstbourne road, but its the first time we've done it and we felt it would just be too much to take on to do the whole road. Apart from anything else, the application form requires you to get every resident to agree and sign a form and there's 40+ properties on this end of the road alone....!! That's before the rest of the party gets organised....

However if the 'upper' end of Hurstbourne Road (the section between Vancouver and Stanstead) would like to organise a street party too that would be fantastic! We can join the parties together.

For info - so far the Council have agreed in principle to the road closure, so we are now working on the application. Everyone in this section of the street should have had a leaflet from us by now, and if you haven't we'll be round in the next few days to accost you!

We very much hope it will be a communal event - we've no ideas at the moment of what the event will entail, it's really up to the residents what they want, but we'll be arranging a meeting soon to throw some ideas around.

Anyway so far everyone seems very pleased about it! Thumbsup

Jane
It might be easier to organise a party between Vancouver and Marler Road as there are fewer houses/people to contact.
I don't know. I did get an email from someone at no. 21 Hurstbourne who was interested, but that is nearer to Stanstead Road end I think.

We'd also have to speak to the Council about whether they would allow the section of Vancouver Road which crosses with Hurstbourne Road to be closed.

The deadline for application forms is 5 May.
I think that you would probably need to leave Vancouver Road open. I think they will need to keep most roads open.
Hello people!

So today after work I leafleted Elsinore Road and the Woolstone end of Kilmorie & Vancouver & Woolstone road. I have the rest of Kilmorie and a few other roads left to leaflet!!

Very excited about this as I have already had a few replys and I have only posted them through a few hours ago! I'm very excited about this as the sense of community has been amazing!

I've so far hunted down a massive piece of rope for tug of war! :D

Were having a meeting on Woolstone road on 8th May at 3pm. Text or email me for details.

Thanks, sophie-rose xx
