We seem to be in for a week of this. I had little trouble getting to Brixton and back but I think theyve had more snow since then. Nightmare picking up children from childcare and trying to walk along Davids and Devonshire with a buggy-An is right its the camber that is the trouble and worrying due to the risk of sliding off the pavement onto the south circ. We are not venturing out tomorrow. Our road is also a steep hill and just got forgotten about last time so not expecting too much this time. I have alpine walking sticks so may get these out even though I might get a laugh or too but when I went walking in the Alps in snowy and icy conditions they proved very useful so would recommend them for anyone who is nervous.

Started snowing again, looks like it's going to be a good covering. Although Canonbie road was finally gritted today, with the fresh snow on already frozen ice, suggest this route is NOT used on Friday morning.

Yes - definitely snowing hard - the kerbs are rapidly disappearing in Garthorne Rd. And just when traffic is lightest. Would not have high expectations for any transport in the morning rush; shall definitely be working from home!

Just received a tweet from someone stuck on a ELL train which has broken down between Brockley and Honor Oak Park. It's not looking good out there.

My wife was on it. They were stuck for an hour and a half - electrical contact with third rail lost - but go to FH eventally, apparently under their own power.

From the website looks like Forest Hill to London bridge trains all canceled.
Overground appears to be running - anyone live on the scene?!

My husband got on an overground train at 7:25. Had to wait about 30 minutes for it.

From what I can see of the Southern website, the TFL website, some travel fella on BBC Breakfast & the news feed of Twitter updates Google, I won't be getting south of East Croydon today.

any news on buses to Camberwell/Brixton?
02-12-2010, 08:55 AM
According to the tfl website the 176 isn't coming on to FH but terminating at Camberwell. However someone caught the 185 this morning early so it seems that some are running. Not sure what to do yet so might wait for more information before venturing out. Dont really want to get stuck on the way home which is the main issue as I've walked miles home before in previous years and don't want to do it again.!

I managed to get on the 0711 Dalston service at 0811 from HOP. Totally amazed that I made it on time to work!

I've decided that it is my civic duty to work from home today so that those more in need of crossing London can make use of the limited services on ELL and buses and possibly Southern Trains if they start running.
This is a purely altruistic act on my part and in no way related to my dislike of trudging through the snow and ice, the lack of information about trains and buses, or the pop-up Forest Hill event that I want to get to this evening.

I went to FH post office this morning but WH Smith (and therefore, a fortiori, the PO) was closed - blinds still down. FH library open till 5.00. Bloke optimistically putting a table out on to the pavement outside The Brothers!
I looked into the station. A notice says that Overground is suspended but that there's a Southern train from W Croydon, all stations to LB, every half hour in both directions.

No, East Croydon, I think.
02-12-2010, 10:35 AM
BBC London 94.9 reporting our local buses are all running through FH now.
02-12-2010, 10:42 AM
Good stuff. Have however agreed with my boss to work from home today so I'm not going anywhere, and I'd better be getting on with that!
02-12-2010, 10:43 AM
Trains are leaving for London Bridge at x04 and x34, starting from East Croydon. We're very lucky as the rest of the Southern network is still closed.

East Croydon is trending on Twitter!
