Can anyone recommend a good fairly local display for Friday or Saturday night? I have a friend in from overseas who wants to go to one and I don't usually bother.

I assume Crystal Palace Park will have something well organized if a bit soul less - any others? (I was hoping to take her to the planned insanity of Lewes but transport is looking to be a pig).

Thanks in anticipation.
Brockwell Park does some really good fireworks (they went on for ages last year) but I'm not sure they have a bonfire though. I suggest you have a look on the Lambeth council website. I believe Blackheath does some good fireworks too. [/align]
Blackheaths are great
and the fireman, they will be a dancin!!!
The Lewes events are great but not suitable for young kids so it will be while before we go back there. If you are happy to travel out of London I can recommend Rye Fawkes event on Sat 13th. Its a smaller version of the Lewes event but more accessible and easier for children and indeed adults to enjoy.
I found this list of fireworks for the weekend.

I'm torn between Crystal Palace on Friday (only a fiver) or Blackheath on Saturday (free) or maybe both. No sign of fireworks in Brockwell Park, but Southwark Borough are having a free display in Southwark Park on Friday (walking distance from Canada Water tube).

As for Lewes, it's a local festival for local people and outsiders are discouraged from attending as I was told by a friend who goes every year with family ties in Lewes.
Lewes is now Royston Vasey?
I've been to the Lewes event a number of times and no ones ever asked me for a passport or visa. Or a Vasey.

I will be going to the Crystal Palace event and monitoring everyone very closely for any evidence of Blackheath- ness amongst the attendees and exposing them for what they really are.
No Brockwell Park fireworks this year - Lambeth saving money and only having one show. A list of local fireworks displays can be seen on the Forest Hill Society website.

Why not go to Southwark Park on Friday and Crystal Palace on Saturday Wink

Because they are both on Friday? Smile

Not looking good for weather at the moment. Rain and high winds could see a few events cancelled on safety grounds.

Weather forecast now looking less severe. Does anyone know which part of Crystal Palace Park the firework display is based in?
Maybe a bit of a long way to go, however the best one a country mile that I have ever been to is the one that is in Battersea Park

£6 for adults, £1 for kids under 10

Lucky for me that I have a friend nearby and can stay with them

Think you may be able to catch a train from FH to Balham, then one from there to Battersea Park, then again may even be able to get direct from FH to BP
