I must be missing something but can someone please tell me why the Queen could not do without a financial contribution from the taxpayer for a year or two, and perhaps actually put a little back? I believe it was only a decade or so that she was actually taxed.
Why on earth do we continue to do this without protest.
Roz, some might argue that Her Maj brings in a lot of revenue through tourism etc, this is then passed on to Joe/Joanna Blogs through wages etc.
Does she /they bring in more than they cost? I doubt it. What happens to the entry charges to Buckingham Palace- where do they go?

I'm not advocating anarchy , just that they pay for themselves for a bit, just like the rest of us have to. She is the richest woman in the world after all.
I don't know where you got the idea that the Queen is the richest woman in the world. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/richest-w...world.html
Could be a few for the Tower. I think Her Majesty is very frugal and is a great advertisement for our country.
I would like to at least see a slimmed-down monarchy like some other European countries, and for the Queen's relatives to earn their own money rather than receive from the Civil List.

Roz - in answer to your question about why we continue to do this without protest - I think people a) are innately conservative and b) are seduced by arguments that they bring in the tourists, are value for money Rofl etc.
Indeed. Again the most vulnerable in our society are pilloried with cuts whilst the Civil list finances are merely tinkered with. As I said, I think the monarchy could do more to helping sort out the debt problem given the current situation and the rest of us could do more about putting pressure on them.
I understand Her Gracious Majesty has already made many savings and leads a very frugal private life.
It is east to attack someone who cannot answer back.
I daresay Roz would expect her to wheel her grandchildren on these confounded buggies on the 176. I am sure she would do so politely and withn grace.
Princes Harry and William are a little big even for my buggy....
I'd love to live the very frugal private life that the Queen lives.
She has 600 staff. Why? How?
Andy
What do you mean How?
Why because she is a major tourist attraction and also benefit to Britain when travelling abroad.
How many world leaders have been in charge for 58 years. God Bless her.
Nelsons Column is a tourist attraction but it doesn't require staff or corgis. I suspect the next few generations of royalty will be a little different but then I suppose everything things that of the young, but the sad fact is that they tend to turn out more traditional and conservative than their parents.

I am glad that major changes are taking place in the Queens coffers at last.
The Queen is not just Queen of Britain but many other Commonwealth countries where she is head of state. Should we not share the cost with Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belize, etc?
I believe they pay for their Governor General's but when Her Majesty is in , say Canada , then they pay the Bills.
I would have thought the amount that could be saved would be peanuts compared with the problems we have. If Labour thought the Royal Family get to much why did they not reduce it.
God Bless Her Majesty.
