Hi Peter
Thanks for posting this. We live next door to this proposed development and are really worried about it. It is going to be a a significant change on the corner of Brockley Rise and Honor Oak Park - opposite the old Betram Bakery on one side and Brockley Supermarket etc. on the other.
As a lot of you will know someone bought 109 Stondon Park which seemed to be derelict and has, for the last few months, being doing a thorough job doiing it up. And good luck to them - no problem with that.
But the planning application is to build a pretty big 2-storey block on the back garden of 109.
We have registered our objection with the planning officer on the following grounds:
- Privacy. There will be lots of windows on the north side overlooking ours and our neighbours back gardens. Unfairly the plans show that there are no windows on the side facing back towards the existing house at 109 Stondon Park.
- Reduction in light. This construction will shut out a lot of the light coming into back gardens for houses in our little terrace.
Obviously these objections are particularly focussed on the impact on houses in our little terrace, but I do think there is a broader impact. We are particularly worried about the parking problems round here and this new development will only exaggerate this. There are also new directives about development in back gardens aren't there? I think it is a pity for decent green space like this to have a, not very attractive, square block built on it.
I would encourage anyone that wishes to register their comments with the planning officer by 18th October (soon). If enough people do that then the decision should get referred to the counsellors. At very last I think there are things about the plans that need to be revised.
One other little issue is that the planning application sign has been inaccessible until fairly recently because it was on the telegraph pole on the pavement that you couldn't walk along because of the work that was happening to it, so I think a lot of people haven't been aware that this is in the offing.
So, please do write to the planning folk.
Shelley and Richard
