I may be demonstrating my ignorance here of local birdlife, but there is what appears to be a very tame cockatiel pecking at the grass down the street from my house (on Stanstead Road). I know nothing about birds, so don't want to approach it but thought if it is someone's pet, someone on here might know...
Was it green? If so, probably one of the parakeets noe rsident in south london. There was one in a tree near our garden on Saturday.
Just walked past as well. On the bit of green grass as you walk down stanstead from the coop. Not a parakeet, this was grey with a yellow head and definitely looked like a lost pet. Very tame looking
Yes, definitely a cockatiel. It's very pretty and apparently has been there about a week.
I'm sure it was a kestrel I saw outside FH Station on Friday evening at 6pm eating a mouse.
I really did not expect to see a kestrel by the side of the south circular.
There is occasionally a Kestrel hovering over the long grass areas on Blythe Hill, and I have seen one over other parts of SE23 too. And sometimes sparrowhawks too.
I was watching this little chap for a couple of weeks whenever I went past as he seemed to have found a home on the roof of Perrystreete, at the station end. His flying improved dramatically during that time and that might have something to do with the fact that I haven't seen him for about a week now. Any recent sightings?
