I wonder if the Se23.com regulars can help me. I live in Perry Vale. Am I South Forest Hill, or East?Confused

From my map, it looks like North FH is Honor Oak and all that, South is Dartmouth Road and maybe the town centre, West is Horniman Musem, over to Wood Vale etc (or east east dulwich as estate agents would say) and east is Perry vale, and of course the new FH Centraaal.

Is this right? have fomal boundaries been agreed? I need to know, so i can pledge lifelong loyalty to my side, and harbour deep suspicion of the rest of you!

thanks everyone
I don't like class differences, but lets look at it this way, which is
much easier for you to understand:

The railway line is the dividing wall (Like Berlin was many years ago)
We are in the westThumbsup and you are in the eastRofl
thenutfield,

You live the wrong side of the tracks (as I do).
I'm afraid the eastern side of Forest Hill, as with most European cities, is the side associated with destitution and diseases. This is historically explained by the prevailing winds, which carried the pollution that way.
as on our planet, all the bad stuff coming from the west!
Ah well, at least now I know my place. Maybe if i save up hard enough, I can go for a night 'up West'. maybe a cocktail at the capital, then a slap up at the Anika Wink
Hello.......FHS, are you out there?
We need a Checkpoint Charlie v2 placed in the 'tunnel of doom' ™ please.
thenutfield you are on the sacred land of the People's Republic of Southern Forest Hill ( encompassing Perry Vale and many other roads to the East). It is the land of great intellectual fervour, progressive minds, a hive of ingenuity. This is our land because we chose it, not because it is almost East Dulwich.
that's what I thought. Sort of the rive gauche of Forest Hill.

That's why we've got Kafe La....and they've got Pizza Hut delivery

Don't forget the closed Bagel shop and the Co-Op !!

Ah but we have the Southern Fried Chicken and their ribs are the best (esp after a large quantity of drink)
Oh yes, Ian, you can be proud, humm let's see, "Favorite Chicken and Ribs", the shabby International Call Centre, what about that delighful newsagent that also sells all kind of poundshop-style junk, and the myriad of boarded up shops...yes sure, you can rival Marylebone High Street.

Don't be so defeatist, it's the perfect spot for a high-end deli!!!

Sure, as well as Perry Vale is.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about PV. I see my error now. Gah.

I am moving from one side of the tracks to the other (back to where I came from). I hope that the Peoples' Republic of Eastern Forest Hill will not hold this against me. I have spent 10 (mostly enjoyable) years on the Eastern Front but now it is time to move up West.

I'll miss having the Honor Oak as my local pub, fresh bread from the shop at the end of the street, and the absence of hills to clamber over late at night. But I am still looking forward to moving 'uptown' (it is literally higher on one side than the other).
Does anyone know who Perry was?
I believe there used to be a proliferation of pear orchards in the vicinity hence the name.
Actually, those that live on the Perry Vale side are in the REAL Forest Hill. Perry Vale was the first high street and Christchurch (which is now being turned into flats) was the center of the Lord Dartmouth estate which was built for timber workers felling trees for the Deptford shipyards. The Vale residents are the 'old' residents.

However I seem to remember that the origional palace was on the Hill where the 30's flats now are so that would have been the center.
