I've seen three in SE23/26 this year. I remember them from childhood holidays in the Channel Islands in the 1950s, but hadn't realised until this year how far north their range (now?) extended.
Yes, ive seen many this year. I get lot that come up from the railway line or the nature reserve on Devonshire Road

Here's one I saw yesterday on London Road (I hope this link works): http://tinyurl.com/kkyoyr
Yup, loads down here too. Here are some of my recent pics

and this one is interesting too:
Am I missing something?
what might you be missing Michael?

not interesting for you? I think the little creatures are very interesting (in a brief "ooh isn't that a pretty creature that just landed on my window" sort of way)

move along now, nothing more to see
I think michael is missing your pictures..as the rest of us seem to be.
I could see them the first time I opened rob's posting, but now they seem to have disappeared - there's only that irritating little red saltire.
They must have flown away.
I've got two in my back garden (Perry Vale area). First year I've noticed them.

There's a good picture on Flickr that shows part of the orange/red underwing, which you usually only see when they're flying: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jatait25/878122688/
I have these in my garden too, Bovil/Herschell road area. They've been around for about the last 4-5 weeks, and seem to prefer my passiflora to the other plants. There's usually about 2 or 3 that flutter away as i remove the fruit growing.
ah! the pictures seemed to load fine every time I checked, but if they are not loading for you that makes a little more sense Smile

I think this is a Jersey Tiger caterpillar - spotted munching on a hawthorn last autumn.
Regular sightings this summer in the Dunoon Road area. I also saw one a couple of weeks ago in Greenwich Park, so they seem to be spreading. Attached is a pic showing both upper stripes and orange spotted underwing. [attachment=285]
