Does anyone know anything about BT's charges (?4.50) for paying by cheque & ?10 for late payment?

Has anyone challenged them (successfully)?

Are they legal?

When I get to the checkout at Tesco they don't add an additional charge for paying the total bill.

I think their argument goes that they are giving people who pay by direct debit a discount of ?4:50! which is a bit cheeky. In fairness though Bt are by no means the first to introduce this "admin" charge, just the highest profiled
