Thanks, hillview. Let's hope it is a coffee shop that is somehow different to the other coffee shops already in SE23. It'll be a shame to lose one of those shop-that-sells-everything establishments though.
Forest Hill really doesn't need another coffee shop. Especially not one that size. More bars, restaurants and good food shops.
Clearly someone thinks a large coffee shop is a viable business and is happily to compete with the other local offerings. Suspect it's likely to be a chain, if it happens it will be interesting to see how the others providing a similar offering can up their game to compete on choice (food and beverage), price, quality, service, opening times etc.
ah. a chain. of course. PG not Starbucks.
I pray for an authentic tapas bar or a good family Italian.
PG Not Costa!
I just heard that it's the landlord that wants this property to be a coffee shop. The current tenants want to stay. The hardware/home shop is far more useful than a 19th coffee shop. Yes, there are 18 coffee shops in FH!
There is a new application:
http://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online-a...CAPR_94285 3

This splits the unit and includes a Costa Coffee.

Quote:
This planning application therefore proposes the sub-division of the ground floor of 7-9 London Road, Forest Hill. The western half of the unit (Unit 9) would be retained within the A1 Use Class whilst planning permission is sought for the change of use of the eastern half of the unit (Number 7) from its existing lawful A1 Use to allow a mixed A1/A3 coffee shop, which it is intended for occupation by Costa.
This solution allows the current occupier to remain in Forest Hill, whilst creating a unit that is of a suitable size that is attractive to coffee shop operators such as Costa.
