The number of Labour MPs standing down at the election reached eight last night as Jim Dowd signalled his departure from a safe Labour seat in London.

End of an era.
With such short notice to appoint the next Labour candidate before the election, I wondered if a local councillor might be interested/considered.
But only Paul Bell from the Telegraph Hill ward spoke at the save Forest Hill School rally at Mayow Pk today. And he spoke well.

Sure some might have other important business, but all of them?
If Labour councillors cannot get motivated to offer support when a secondary school in their own ward/area is in difficulty then you start to wonder what they are there for at all. Poor show.

Thanks and good luck to Jim Dowd.
The candidates for his replacement:

Kevin Bonavia
Ibrahim Dogus
Jane East
Ian Kearns
Ellie Reeves
Christian Wolmar

Who should we wish for (assuming they then go on to win...) if we want someone reasonably focussed on local issues, will stand up to Corbyn whenever he sides with the Tories on a hard Brexit, but is not going to keep sniping at him when he is fighting against austerity?

Quote:
Barrister Ellie Reeves, a former member of Labour’s NEC and wife of MP John Cryer, will stand in Lewisham West and Penge.
