Since the beginning of July, there have been a total of seven burglary related offences within the Ward of Forest Hill. This message is intended to remind you that now the days and nights are getting warmer please do not become complacent and leave windows open or doors ajar whilst popping out or when in the garden. It takes moments for an offender to enter your home under such circumstances and steal your property.

These offences have occurred around the following areas; London Road, Kirkdale, Boveney Road and Manor Mount.

Remember, do not leave your items in plain view from windows, do not leave car keys near letter boxes or on your dining tables near open windows. If you have double glazing, most have the facility to leave the window slightly ajar but still locked. Use this facility if you must only on rooms upstairs whilst asleep at night to keep cooler air circulating in your home.

If you wish to receive a burglary advice pack or have a free home security survey, let me know and I'll contact you for this to be done. You can also get good sound advice on all manner of security by visiting the Metropolitan Police Service's own website at http://www.met.police.uk as well as police approved products on such sites as Secured by Design by visiting http://www.securedbydesign.com.

Yours sincerely, Michael 195PL

Is there any information on the clear-up rate - how many of these offences are solved?
What about the burglaries in Dacres road? Do they not count in these figures? Your advice is good and an appreciated reminder to be vigilant, but i'm afraid it always comes across as if the victims are to blame. We were 'burgled' twice a few years back and were given a lot of advice and leaflets, but the fact is they simply smashed straight through the glass back door. No amount of door locks and caution could stop that. And as i have said we were made to feel it was our fault.

Dacres Road is in Perry Vale Ward as is a lot of SE23 so burglaries would appear in that wards crime statistics. However the Perry Vale Safer Neighbourhoods team never seem to communicate with this forum, even though they share the same Inspector and Sergeant as Forest Hill Ward!
Good to have a friendly Community Support officer handing out free SmartWater packs at the weekend, which we've taken full advantage of. I don't know how much notice burglars will take of the warning stickers in our windows, but possibly handy in getting fenced stuff back - if the worst come to it.

Anyone know what the financial arrangements are between SmartWater Ltd and the police?

Does anyone know why the friendly PCSO would only have had 2 out of all the properties on my road on his SmartWater list? Spoke to him a while back when he was doing it, but had nothing since.
He mentioned properties adjacent to previous burglaries/incidents were likely to be on the list. Agree he was very friendly.
