Lewisham Police Safer Transport Team will be security marking bicycles at Sainsbury's Bell Green on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of August 2015 between 10am and 1pm.

The reason for this is to prevent the loss of bicycles within the Borough of Lewisham given thieves tend to file the frame number of bikes they’ve stolen before re-spraying them a different colour making it hard for losers to identify them when found by police.

If you or a family member have a bicycle take it along to Bell Green and the safer transport team will mark your mark the bicycles with a stencil on the frame of your bike giving it a unique registration number. Special UV paint is then applied over this stencil which if your bike is stolen can still be identified even if the frame number is destroyed or the bike is re-painted.

Such a service would normally cost £17 but my colleagues are providing this service for free. Your bike will then be registered on the national bike register "Bike Register". Once registered you will then receive unique log in details to update this register should you move home for example.

Yours sincerely, Michael Hill 195PL
