Perhaps Doctor Whale did so badly exactly because J Dowd refused to stand on a platform with him and give those views some legitimacy. Dunno.
Jim got back in literally effortlessly.

I wonder if he had a curry to celebrate?

Well at least Jim Dowd isnt about to support the selling off the NHS. Be grateful for small mercies.

Dowd didn't have to show up to the hustings. He knew he didn't need to. At best he would have gained a few extra votes at worst he would have made a mistake and lost a few votes. Why bother? I almost admire the chutzpah.
A bit like Cameron not debating directly with Miliband or refusing to say where he would cut £8billion from welfare.
Dowd should have had more character than to wimp out as should Cameron. In the end the blame is with the system. He has a job for life barring very serious indiscretions.

Its good to see that the Lib Dems and UKIP are held in equal regard.

Isn't it strange that a parliamentary borough so ethnically diverse as ours has been electing as its MP the same white man ever since 1993?
Ditto for Lewisham as a whole and its choice of Mayor.
Still, Jim did get over 50% of the votes cast and so congratulations must be in order and, presumably, some more papadums.

Good mixed gender representatives across the borough that puts neighbouring boroughs to shame

If people don't like Jim Dowd, they can become active in the Labour party and get him deselected.

Considering Labour did so well in the council election last year across the borough, it's no real surprise he got in so comfortably.
A shame this wasn't reflected in the rest of the country mind.
