Here's a decent review (decent in the sense that it seems fairly accurate and recent):

I think Chandos might be what you are looking for in a pub. Personally I've never been in (the only pub in SE23 to which this applies).
Thanks Michelle, that does actually sounds what i'm looking for No beardy wallies supping 'real ale' whilst twanging their new banjo. A real mans boozer. Excellent, i shall investigate!
It's a shame you don't like twanging banjos, as the Blythe Hill Tavern is a great place on a Thursday if you like a bit of impromptu music (see http://london.randomness.org.uk/wiki.cgi...C_SE23_1JB) from men drinking real ale or more likely Guinness.

hop you like the Chandos and get the chance to explore some of the other local pubs. Not far from the Chandos is the General Napier, which is actually a very pleasant pub if you can find it! It is a small old style back street pub, but incredibly well looked after and too small to accommodate little people.

My word.

I hate to disappoint Honor Man but the General Napier are in fact very welcoming of children. There's actually a sign that says Children Welcome.
Ooh, we have a controversialist *drops knitting*
Thanks and sorry for calling you Michelle(!) A genuine error, i had miss-read your name.

Which pub is best for pulling birds?
I presume you're talking about me? I'm not controversial, i'm just a traditional man. I like a quiet drink, sports, women and banter. I dont think there's much wrong in that. I'm not suggesting women stay home and cook all day, although it would be nice to find one haha, but i think all men would like that! No, i have a good woman who comes out with me now and again, and we're very happy.
Dunno about the Chandos but you might want to try The Fox and Hounds (or Fox's as they insist on calling it nowadays) on Kirkdale https://www.flickr.com/photos/55935853@N00/3312697734/
I think it'll suit all your trad requirements nicely, Honor man ...

Isn't that obvious from the name: "Bird in Hand"
http://www.birdinhandforesthill.co.uk/

From the name, yes! But i've just looked at it on the net and it looks like a bit of a nudgers pub to me, so think i'll leave it
Ok, so who is it that is treating us to this fab new character during the summer slump of activity on SE23? Wow
WUM Smile
I really miss Cellar Door's observations... and what happened to the entertainingly controversial Brian? What does WUM mean by the way? Confused
WUM = 'Wind Up Merchant', China Girl.

Funny, I was also just thinking that I missed Cellar Door's wit and charm. I think he said he was moving away, at least for a while.
Brian continues to troll on the Sydenham Forum, but he has apparently lost interest in SE23 now that he lives in Beckenham. Although I'm not sure troll is the right word for the most frequent poster.

I think Cellar Doors also left the area, which is a shame. He was always a big fan of the Capitol.

But the contributors I miss most are Baggydave and Loneranger. But alas the forum has moved on since their time. I blame Facebook for the demise of anonymous discussions between people with nothing in common.
Happy days...
Popped in Chandos for a few pints last night and really enjoyed it. Nice vibe in there, no wallies, just what i wanted.

Probably the most insightful 15-word analysis of social media I've ever read!

I've been drinking a lot recently in the Last Chance Saloon, which I can't recommend highly enough ..
