I wonder if they're going to give those houses opposite as you come out of HOP station a lick of paint? I think it would make a whole lot of difference.
Can this mythical "they" paint my house whie they're at it? .......preferably free of charge!
They're not pretty are they? Especially when the washing is hanging out in full view.
It's a lot easier to post a one-liner on a forum I know, but if you're not happy, why don't you phone up the council and ask them to do something?
what's it got to do with the council? If the people in the properties want work doing they will get it done surely?
That block is Council owned and therefore responsible for maintenance and any breaches of tenancy agreement i.e. clothes on washing line. In the old days when GLC (Greater London Council) were managing council homes across most of London there was a clause in the tenancy agreement that required tenants not to hang their washing on balconies etc, this clause was removed over the years.
Surely more environmentally friendly than the gas guzzling tumble dryer method that i presume you prefer, or is it that you just don't want to see someone else's washing?
I saw some people moving tables and chairs into the closed mini-market next to Neroli on the parade today. Any news on that?
Quite right jaradras, these are council owned with council tenants.
It's really horrid seeing the washing flying for all to see and yes hairyboggart, absolutely, I don't want to see someone's underwear and clothes hanging over our lovely high street. It's got nothing to do with tumble dryers it's about a bit of common decency in my opinion not hanging your washing in such as massively conspicuous way. There is a communal garden behind them which could be used but they obviously don't care.
Anyway, back to the OP's point. Why don't you call the council and request it Cheeky?
did not know there were a lot of council owned houses left any more!
the mini-market is closed? can't say i ever used it tbh.
Another option is that we volunteer to chip in and paint those eye sore buildings ourselves. I'd be happy to put in a Sunday afternoon with the brush and masonry paint. Maybe Whites could discount or even donate the paint in return for some marketing!
I'm sure Cheeky and Poppy will help

I think the block might be managed by London & Quadrant Housing Association. Perhaps some have been bought by tenants hence the mish mash style of PVC windows. The roof is being done at the moment (saw a L&Q high vis vest - hence speculating it might be managed by them) while they are at it I they should give it a lick of paint!
There is often the most vile smell around those properties, but I can't describe it. Not like rotten cooked cabbage; more like something dead and decaying. Coming from one of the flats? I hope not.
I wonder how one might feel if one's home was being discussed in this way on a public forum?
