Did anyone else hear what sounded like fireworks last night at around 7.15 which lasted for around 20 minutes? I was at home in UDB and couldn't figure out which direction the 'bangs' were coming from as the noise was bouncing around in the valley of houses and blocks of flats.

I'm just being nosy really.

It was the Crystal Palace display to commemorate the burning down.

Marvellous! Thanks Roz. That was one hell of a noise from CP. Sorry I missed it now. Cheers!

I'd forgotten too until it started otherwise we would probably have gone. It was mentioned on this site some time ago but not really well publicised in FH. We could see quite a lot from our bedroom window- there must have been a huge bonfire as well due to the glow in the sky.
Did anyone go?

There wasn't a bonfire. However a giant crane raised a large model of the Crystal Palace which was lit up in flames as part of the finale of a spectacular firework display.

The event was held on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the 1936 fire which destroyed the original building

Best fireworks I've seen for years, shame that it was not better publicised, meant to put something up here.

Rather than zilloons of pounds of fireworks miles up in the air, many were at a low level and extremely well coordinated with classical music. And some trapease artists on a crane.

And a burning model (skeleton) of the old palace
Well done LDC.

So much better than Ken's attempt on the millenium.
