Does anyone know if the Brighton line comes through Forest Hill?
A report on the news last night said that there was a proposal to run double-decker trains to Brighton.

Yes, the Thameslink goes through, in a blur of blue and yellow.

The UK railway loading gauge (the max dimensions for rolling stock) has made double deckers a real challenge, particularly with current safety and access standards unless the route is upgraded to continental style clearances. The BR Southern Region experimented in the 1950s-70s but the stock proved highly unpopular.

I cynically note that it's an idea that bidders for rail francises promise to study to gain profile, but the costs of major route clearance work are enormous. Better to go for 12-car trains.

p.s. I am not a train-spotter, I just think anoraks are the ultimate extreme weather garment.
