I saw 7 parakeets flying around Perry Vale yesterday evening. Don't know if they were just passing through or whether they've settled in the area. They're very common in some parts of London, so perhaps they're spreading here.

Link to a BBC story about them here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/sevenwonders/london/p arakeets/

There have been a significant number in the Hither Green area for some time.

Some years ago a heron used to perch on the rooftops in Sunderland Road.

I thought I saw a dodo in Catford. Mind you, I had been drinking.

I've seen a Kestrel hovering over Catford and did I ever tell you about the man who used to walk a ferret on a lead?

A colleague tells me they are very common in Bromley.

They are common here. They seem to commute from Peckham Rye Park to the railway cutting behind Devonshire Road. Last winter there were four regulars on the peanut feeder in my garden . I saw one feeding on a flowering cherry in Dunoon Road one morning in June when on my way down to the station. Oh yes, you can hear them squawking every morning and evening. They are indeed firmly resident in the area.

Loads in Kelsea Park but aint seen them in UDB for a few months, perhaps the ELL extension has put them off.

Also loads of herons on Kelsea park - am I spelling this right? but the trailer trash puts me off.

New thread is what happened to squaking starlings, and swallows??

And Andy where were you?? Like the reference to afternoon drinking though.

PS thinking of sarf London, seemed to have missed Bowie on TV

I live on the top of the hill on Devonshire road and at times our trees are full of them.
