I was surprised to walk past the entry to Havelock Walk yesterday, on my way to the Horniman with my daughter, and see that the time had come around for the summer "open studios". I think this is a great event and I have now been to two of them. As I have said before, I think we have a real jewel here in the small community of artists on this road and if Forest Hill is to create its own identity within the London aglomeration, then this is a great place to start. A variety of art, wonderful studios (I mean the buildings themselves), and a real mix of interesting people from across the community and the world. I was disappointed because I had seen no prior publicity and I believe the event was not as well attended as it should have been. Did anyone else here go? What did you think? If not, please do go to the next event. There is no obligation to buy, but you might just see something inspiring and we do need to support them as best we can. I believe the new SE23 magazine people were there, so we may see more about it soon. For the record I have no connection with them, I am just a fan of theirs. Rob |

I picked up a leaflet in Sainsburys last week, so that's how I found out about it. I think they put up a poster at the entrance to Havelock Walk but it's easy to miss, and of course not much use unless you actually walk along that part of London Road. Marketing could definitely be better! |

I found out about it via a card in SE23 Living. We really enjoyed it - the studio spaces as much as the art itself. Talk about hidden treasures! Forest Hill should definitely be making more of its very own Artists' Quarter. |

Thanks Blushingsnail, well spotted. I saw this in the SE23Living magazine this month as well and I actually got an invitation through the post, so the marketing is improving. I hope we all make a point of passing by and supporting this activity. |

We went yesterday. It was lovely to wander through the galleries. The art work was pretty reasonably priced for original pieces and very interesting. It's a pity it couldn't be repeated on a monthly basis and publicised across London. Would be a great (and unique) draw to Forest Hill. There's also an available unit which could be used as a coffee shop, possibly selling artwork from the local artists. Anyone interested in opening a coffee shop?? |

The next Havelock Walk Open Studios is happening this weekend 30 June and 1st July. It looks like there are a few new faces on the list for this event as well as the mural at the entrance. There is also a new website with some information on the artists: http://www.havelockwalk.com See you there!? |
