Is anyone else experiencing disruptions to the emptying of their green recycling boxes in the past few weeks? Anyone know why it is if so?

Yes, we are. They've come the wrong day twice and missed two collections completely on another two occasions. Sorry, no idea why, as it hasn't annoyed me enough yet to check with the council.

Just round the corner from me then.

I've called the recycling dept at the council and they couldn't tell me anything cos all the systems were down, but they said they'd look into it and sort it out.

Is it a coincidence that the World Cup football is on now?

possibly, although our collection is supposed to be WEdnesdays and I don't think that's been a clash with an england game yet (could be wrong).

They started their absences well before the Finals began, too; must have been designed to throw us off the scent.

Jo108, your actions are much appreciated.

Once again there was no recycling collection on Stanstead Road last Wednesday. I've complained to Lewisham Council. Calvin and Jo108 - I take it your collection was affected as well.

Yes, and I've called about it twice now. Both times they've seemed mildly surprised, but I guess they must be logging our calls as I was given a reference number this last time (what good the number does me is beyond me...).

I was away last week so don't know what happened, but let's see what happens today. My stuff's out there waiting...

My recycling always seems to be fine. I know this because they send a bloke round at 5:30am every Wednesday to move the bin 2 feet from one side of the pavement to the other whilst shouting VERY LOUDLY at his mate who is doing the same thing on the other side of the road.

I'm clearly not angry about it though.

I believe that Lewisham refuse collectors are not allowed to start work until 7.00 a.m..

I am sure that you must be mistaken!

Currently, they only wake me up at 6.45 a.m.!

5:55 every Wednesday morning. It makes me hate going to bed on a Tuesday night. GAH!

I've not had mine picked up for over 2 months now - I live at the Stanstead end of Brockley Rise, so sort of in the same area. I call the council every other week and raise a ticket but nothing happens. I think I've had 3 collections since March!

that's really bad! I find with the council you need to call them every day, or even more frequently if you want anything done.

But Jo, we've had them pick up twice in a row now; how could we possibly be complaining about anything?

Not strictly speaking to do with Forest Hill, but what the heck.

BBC Breakfast News did a feature on rubbish collection and recycling this morning. One person put a drinks carton into his recycling bin which I thought was odd as I understood drinks cartons couldn’t be recycled. So I did some surfing and came across this site: http://www.drinkscartons.com/docs/recycling_uk.htm

It turns out they can be recycled but not all councils collect them. A survey was done of local authorities in 2005 and from the graphic it appears that Lewisham had no interest in recycling them.
