According to this weeks News Shopper the Lewisham West constituency will be extended and have Penge added to its name at the next general election. http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/lewgreennews/dis play.var.769587.0.all_change_at_next_election.php |

I doubt the addition of Penge & Cator Ward will overly worry Jim Dowd. Penge returned 3 of only 4 Labour Councillors in Bromley. More labour than FH these days! I guess his real problem will be having to deal with two local authorities with Bromley being even less sympathetic to Jim's ideas. This months Penge election result is here: http://www.penge.org.uk/government_local.html |

This is Gerrymandering to turn Lew West into a Labour Banker. Because we will never be a marginal we will get less money and attention Very bad move |

Not that Jim "Yes Tony" Dowd would do anything against the party line anyway. Won't make much difference. They could put anyone up for election here. |

Come on! It was only in 1992 that we had a Tory cabinet minister as our MP! (John Maples - now back as MP for somewhere a bit safer, for him). So did Lewisham East. I don't think that anyone in the Lewisham Labour Parties takes it for granted that the traditional 'turnip with a red rosette' will win here. |

I agree the current Lewisham West could possible become a marginal again. I remember Mr Price Tory MP in the 60's . John S Gummer in the 70's and of course John Maples in the 80's. Not sure they would find it so easy now though because of demographic changes. In many ways would have though Sir Ming's lot would have more chance now. Point is that with the addition of marxist Penge Lewisham West's days of being a possible marginal are surely over for ever. |
