We would like to thank everyone who voted in the election last Thursday. I hope the result means I'm doing something right so far!
There's a lot of challenges to face: according to the Improvement and Development Agency's definition of the role of a ward councillor, we are responsible for: ward representation and casework; community leadership and networking; overview and scrutiny; regulatory duties; policy and strategy review and development; and decision-making. Although the last two of these are more limited than in the normal type of council because of the mayoral system which operates in Lewisham.
Most readers will have got some idea of the particular issues we'll be pressing for: a long-term sustainable future for the pools, better recycling, road safety, improvements to the station area and town centre regeneration to name just some. But we'll keep everyone informed, whatever happens.
Thanks again to everyone, and as they say: "the hard work starts here."
