at the risk of sounding posh, does anyone know of an interior designer they would recommend who covers FH area? I've bought a big old flat here which needs total redecoration and am a bit overwhelmed by it and feel I need some professional help. I've checked out a few interior designers but they all seem to be too exclusive and expensive to contemplate something as demeaning as a flat in Forest Hill. Surely I'm not the only non-millionnaire in London who is incapable of doing up a property by themselves...? There must be someone out there who caters for people who don't want to impress everyone with their stunning apartment and get it featured in Hello, but just want to avoid making expensive mistakes by doing things wrong and in the wrong order, and ending up with something that looks pants. Please help me if you can! thanks people.

Try the British Interior Design Association www.bida.org/ have details of members etc.
From the look of some flats currently for sale in Forest Hill on estate agent websites a few other people should have used an interior designer. Bitchy I know but taking pride in your homes appearance reflects ones personality

I've worked for a design firm for the past 6 years. I'm now on maternity leave and thinking of going solo. A local project would be very interesting. Mail me on sharonfraser@yahoo.com if you'd like to chat.

Jo you are posh and just the sort of person we need around here. Keep us informed of the progress.

Also see my reference (and others) on Manor Mount windows thread as there are tradespeople aroudn here who can help, particularly if you want to retain some sort of traditional features

Baggydave - you're right. I can't fight it!

Mrsh - will get in touch. Been away, and just got back this morning, hence lack of response until now. (Us posh people travel a lot!)

Jo, if Mrsh can't help, I just moved into a house on HOP. I used Paula Manning of Manning Interiors. It was mainly for decorating - not design work. Her work is of a good standard and sympahetic to the art-deco period features of the house. She is based in Ladywell and can be reached at paulaemanning@aol.com Reply to this posting if you need her phone number.
