I hear the Lib Dem candidate lives on the 'Posh Estate' namely Westwood Park... Wouldn't have thought this would be the place a 'liberal' would live!

Can anyone confirm this?

Yes you're right. He lives at 100 and something Westwood Park. Actually, there's a few Labour posters along the road too, so not ALL blue-rinses yet!

The blue rinse brigade. You must have heard of them, Adam. Old ladies who live on the posh estate, read the Daily Mail and long for a return to the 1950s etc etc. Coming from the vibrant side of town, I don't get to see many of them - we're all salt of the earth Sarf Londoners - but I'm sure that the posh estate is teeming with them.

Greetings everybody. Although my name gives away my allegiance to a certain set of reds (sorry about the partisanship!) politically I was brought up a blue. I'm glad to hear that a good few of my neighbours on the Park still feel the same. But what's this about the Daily Mail and old ladies? A few of us not so old men feel pretty well served by the not so radical broadsheets for our news.

A Man Utd supporter from London. Give me a break. Unless you are actually from Manchester, in which case I apologise. But if you're one of those footie fans who support whoever is winning, shouldn't you have jumped ship for Chelsea by now?

Bit harsh, Danny. We've all got a right to our opinions, even Man Utd supporting Tory voters. Actually, scratch that - Man Utd supporting Southerners are a bit annoying, aren't they? Good to see Crystal Palace putting the final nail in the coffin of their title bid at the weekend. What is the world coming to? That's the second time I've agreed with Danny. I'll be buying the Girls Aloud album next.

I'm sorry to see the red team unpopular around here. Still good on you all if you have the sticking power to support Palace. As for United they're more of a global franchise - so we have friends (and friendly revals it must be said) the world over. I'm grateful for your sympathies to the red and blue causes Newman.

This is South London, so it shouldn't come as a major surprise that Man Utd are not popular. The list of hated football teams is long, but Man Utd feature highly. As for having the sticking power to support Palace, I'm a bit old fashioned when it comes to supporting a football team, believing that you should support the team that is nearest to where you come from or at the very least in the same city as you. Rather than hitching a ride with the flavour of the month, global franchise or no global franchise. My only sympathy to the blue cause is that they are such a hopeless rabble with zero chance of winning the next election, I almost feel sorry for them. Almost, but not quite.

Come come newman its only with our lot that Selhurst Park ever sells out and there are lots of folk from all over - London too - who regularly go up to Old Trafford. You're not that chap who shouted at the sainted Mr Cantona are you (only kidding!). My apologies on the politics front. I guess you're one of these "liberals in our midst" then?

To be honest, Mannew, I don't know what my politics are anymore. Ask that weird guy who not so long ago was posting silly messages under various names and he/she would tell you that I'm a communist. Ask Dave, however, and he'll say that I'm a reactionary monster who believes everything I read in the right wing press. Take your pick.

Ah, you're the voice of disenchanted youth newman. You should come and join the Conservatives. We could do with some radical ideas. Reading the right-wing press is a good start but you shouldn't believe everything in it.

Disenchanted, yes, but youthful - well, not quite as old as some of the codgers on this site, but probably pushing it to call myself youthful. Thanks for the invite, Mannew, but not quite ready to join the Tories yet. And, unfortunately, I don't read the right wing press, despite being told by some of my friends in media land that I should as it's 'where the zeitgeist is'. Or something. Think I might start my own party (Vote Newman! You know it makes sense) instead for disenchanted reactionary monsters everywhere.
