Tesco Express on London Road was fast selling out of dark chocolate on Saturday night. OK, they don't have Green & Blacks, but the dark Lindt had gone completely, and Tesco's own brand dark choccie (a bit sugary) was outselling their 'milk' stuff.

Can't even get anything above 15% cocoa mass in the shop across the road from my office.

You know who is responsible, don't you? The muggers - they probably stocked up on chocolate after a particularly successful day of mugging people in FH, meaning that not even one bar was left for decent citizens like you and me. It's an outrage!! Whingers of the world unite!!

Mr Greedy, you don’t know the half of it. When my Tunisian Lamb with Special Couscous recipe called for rose petal harissa paste, I was pleasantly surprised to find that only one jar remained on the shelf at Sainsbury’s! Granted it was in that cobwebbed “exotic” corner at the end of aisle one, but its expiry date was several months off. This to me points to a run on the product, further evidence of the rapidly embourgouisidisation of the Upper Dulwich Bottom palate.

Chocolate, schmocolate...There are more important things, you know. Imagine my dismay when I discovered that Tesco Express on London Road doesn't stock Horse & Hound. And there was I thinking that this was the posh side of town. Can I have your copy when you've finished with it, Dave?

Nor does it stock Jane's Ammunition handbook
Carvaning weekly
or My Perfect Allotment monthly
Perhaps we could set up a men's group (like the suggested book club, but more along the lines of the above publications).

The thing is, my observations lead me to conclude that there is higher demand than anticipated for dark chocolate, harissa paste etc. This is a sign the area is 'upncommin' in the words of an aquaintance from Swansea. Can H&H and Jane's Fighting Ships be far behind? What about Harpers and The Tattler?

Mrs Marcos, I don't think I complemented you enough on that Tunisian Lamb!

The small Caribbean place on Dartmouth Rd is called Cummin Up. Does that make FH more or less upncommin?

Cummin Up has to be the worst shop name in FH. What were they thinking (or more to the point drinking) when they 'came up' with that? Any other contenders for the prize of 'silliest shop name in se23'?

Isn't there a 'Dentists and Sedation Clinic' on Dartmouth Rd. "Hello, I'd like sedating please. Yes Sir, next Tuesday be alright?"

More on embourgoisement. Saw some kids kicking round a RUGBY ball walking down towards Wood Vale.

Hope you took it away from them and threw it in the road. The nerve! Perhaps the media is right after all and football is becoming more middle class with rugby going the other way. It's a shocking state of affairs. I think I'll have to stop off at that sedation clinic on the way home from work - that's how angry I am at such a blatant disregard for the class barriers that put the Great in Britain.

I blame that Wilkinson fellow - if he hadn't played out of his skin against the Aussies, then rugby would still be confined to such areas as the posh estate.

There's a shop opposite the Hob that sells 'ladies fashion shoes'. Sounds v. posh. So, ladies, if you ever need some fashion shoes, you know where to go.

Went to that 'old fashioned' sweet shop in North Cross Road, that every one is now talking about. Well at least the Guardian and Radio London. Old fashioned sweet shop? Seemed to be yet another upmarket Dulwich shop fleecing those who don't need to count their change, give me the pick and mix at my local on Wood Vale any day

Radio London? what tosh, try LBC 97.3! I can recommend Nick Ferrari in the mornings (better than Danny Baker & John Gaunt by miles)

And in the evening (M-T 8-12midnight) Clive Bull, lots of Saaaaaaaaaaaaarf landaners ring in, including Brockley and FH!

www.lbc.co.uk

Blatent plug, but I used to listen to BBC Radio London and it went down hill, Vanessa is quite good though!

I was actually briefly on LBC, I wanted to say that I thought that they'd stopped broadcasting - which I thought that they had.

GLR had good music. Agreed that Vanessa is entertaining and also Robert Elms is excellent. Had a day off work and found this was far more informative on current events that Radios 4 and 5 which was quite a surprise.

GLR? Dave! thats its old name!

it was then BBC LDN which lasted 6 months and was rebranded to BBC London! (Add that to your musical history of SE23!)

Is it me or is that John Gaunt the most annoying man in the media?

LBC moved from AM to FM, they still have LBC News 1152am which is good, but like most news medias esp TV/Radio it is the same news repeated time and time again. The worst has to be Sky Sports News, Essex girls dressed up with lots of makeup and a Croydon fringe, sleeping their way into TV!

Sorry to any residents of Croydon reading this!

Adam, I hope your unkind remarks re. Sky Sports News aren't aimed at the lovely Kelly Dalgleish and Charlie Thompson, who I'm certain have got where they are through sheer hard work and the ability to make even the most mundane story sound interesting. And did I misread Dave's post, or did he have his own show on LBC once? The BaggyDave breakfast show...The mind boggles.

Dunno what their names are, but they are hiddeous! Some of them are pretty, granted, so not sure how a few slipped through the net.

Yes Dave was on LBC many years ago, but it wasn't breakfast, it was during the day, he was a big hit.

he will be doing a come back book signing at WH Smith Forest Hill SE23 (Not SE21 as the Inde like to put it) on Friday 4th March 15:00

His new much acclaimed book 'My life on the right side of the tracks' has attracted rave reviews from across the industry

"A 5 star read" Time Out
"Gripping, Gritty and Great" The Times
"A fellow genius and great neighbour" Linda Barker
"hang him and flog him" the SE23 hang em and flog em brigade

I should be charging Adam for all of the entertainment he is getting out of this. I think that we must be the last three people on earth based on the lack of interest from the rest of the community. My comments on GLR were in the past tense, even at my advanced age I could not miss the two rebranding exercises. Danny Baker was annoying when he was on radio 1 (yes I did used to listen) and has not improved in my opinion. John Gaunt should stay in Coventry (although on the odd occasion when you actually agree with him his put downs can be entertaining)

I had about 3 minutes on LBC talking about car servicing and repairs, obviously I wasn't in a position to recommend anyone like my local Moor Park Garage. Did you know that this is next to the flats that were formerly the Moor Park Tavern??

Was that of a night, your phone call? there was one recently with Clive about the same subject!

The guy at MP has been there years and seems to be the bees knees according to people who go to him!

its not entertainment aimed at you Dave, it's general humour about the boards, me trying to migrate comments from different threads into one!

Hence the hang em and flog em bunch, Linda, right side of the tracks, the SE21 postcode quoted in the paper ;))))

What happened to TJ, that's what I would like to know? He did mention that he was against a username/registration system, so perhaps he is boycotting the site in protest. I'm tempted to do the same until Dave stops wittering on about the MPT.

I'm sure some people were posting under multiple usernames! Not saying TJ was for a second, but I notice some others have been very quiet too, since the intro of the UN/PW system.

Dunno if this is of any use to you Newman,

Very funny, Adam. Did Dave put you up to that? Well, I had my suspicions that the 'I am Spartacus' and 'I am Newman. I am red' fool was using a number of different names. Looks like I was right. The whinge squad have also been noticeable by their absence since the new system was put in place, except for Danny, that is, and his posts featuring bizarre pirate impressions and the bombshell that Girls Aloud are his favourite band of all time.

BTW, you forgot to mention the Mail on Sunday's review of 'My life on the right side of the tracks' And I quote...'the surreal rantings of a sandal wearing beardy weirdy whose main claim to fame appears to be that he is friends with the Chuckle Brothers - no stars."

Yeh where is old Danny?

'And the ginger one out of Girls Aloud comes from Forest Hill. Hmmmm, Girls Aloud - when I look at them, I think to myself, they're much nicer than my wife. If their new single doesn't go top ten, then I'll eat my maracas.'

Well it went in at Number 4, ok so he doesn't have to eat his maracas. Wonder if Mrs. Danny logged onto SE23.com and found his message.

Surreal Stabbing Stuns Suburb
By A Reporter

A housewife, Mrs. Danny, is presently detained at Lewisham Police station on allegations that she assaulted her husband Mr. Danny with a knife, which led to his death at University Hospital Lewisham over a jealous saga involving a second rate singer.

Sources close to the family intimated that Mrs. Danny had been suspecting her husband of engaging himself in extra marital activities; with his girls aloud doll and poster which she claimed affected their relationship. She would always report her husband to his friends and closed ones as Mr. Danny is also in the habit of coming home late with flimsy excuses, such as Southern Railway cancelling trains, or the ones running being too packed to board.

Things took a dramatic turn on Saturday when Mrs. Danny confronted her husband enough is enough and a quarrel ensued. Mrs. Danny ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed her husband in the neck. The sounds of Mr. Danny’s struggle for life attracted neighbours from the vibrant side who rushed to the scene. Mr. Danny was taken to a nearby hospital but efforts by Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali to save his life proved futile.

His funeral takes place next Thursday (10th) at Lewisham crematorium, his favourite song by girls aloud 'Wake me up' which currently sits at number 4 in the singles chart along with May Flights of Angels (Danny Boy) will be the music for the surreal service.

Inspector Peter Pan of Lewisham Borough Police commented as we went to press "We are too busy chasing the imaginative muggers of Forest Hill to properly investigate this matter, so Mrs. Danny will remain in our custody for the time being"

Great - what is wrong with the rest of SE23 (all 80,000) of us not to enjoy this. The hours of creativity from Adam.

A new thread, where are the other 79,997 of us? (Newman sure you can work on this)

Or to be pandantic - guess the number of people to live in SE23

Or to take it one stage further for the anlaly retentive of us (to get round profanity checker) I've checked the census data and there are only 67,860 people resident in the SE23 post code district

Give me some inspiration perleeese (current company excepted)

or if you really want to be nosie, check out
www.ourproperty.co.uk/ to find out the house prices of homes sold in your area. Its free to register and it gives some interesting figures.

Found it today when I had to give the insurers the value so they could work out a premium. Its used by the big insurers so must be good!

Dave prices on the posh estate are looking in good stead!

That's a very useful link for property prices Adam as I'm planning on moving this year after 35 years in Forest Hill.I'm taking early retirement and moving back to Norfolk. The site is very useful to see what I can get for my place here and what I can afford in the Norwich area. Its very easy however to use up your 20 free searches.

Bt if thats the case try www.myhouseprice.com/

this one costs £1 a search but I think gives you more options i.e. search by road name, search by map etc. Whereas the other one is done on postcode only! Hope these help you achieve the price you deserve, good luck with it all!

A

Also, the old and trusted www.upmystreet.com is good to search local amenity details, crime, schools performance levels and council details etc, again requires the postcode! but free to use and you don't have to register!

Halifax and Nationwide do housey stuff

You can also go to www.landregistry.gov.uk
and guess what? SE23 3 is the most expensive part of SE23. But house prices, do me a favour, sounds like 1988 again.. But suppose at least this is the correct thread.

Do you know that "On White houses" (can not say it with nags as been blocked by web master - why??) was voted the most popular kids theme tune. Nothing to do with this thread, just a random commment.

I know that you all live in tents or up trees on the posh estate, and shun all things materialistic, but just because someone is interested in house prices, it doesn't make them a raging capitalist pining for a return to Thatcher's Britain, Dave. Anyhoo, better be off as I've got a pub crawl to arrange.

Thanks for the lecture. Obviously you did not go to dinner parties in the late 80s when that was the only topic of conversation and yes that was Thatcher's Britain. The dinner parties a couple of years later were far more amusing - 15% interest, negative equity, repossessions. Anyway as I feel another lecture coming on (are you a closet headmaster Newman?) we all got sucked into it, some of us more lucky that others. No doubt you are an avid Evening Standard reader, as this headlines house prices on quiet news days.

A closet headmaster and an avid Evening Standard reader...you can be very cruel at times, Dave. I was merely pointing out that your comments were a tad harsh - BT mentioned that he was planning on moving this year after 35 years in FH. I'm not sure how you equate this with 80's dinner parties stuffed full of money obsessed, heehawing yuppies, but there you go. Still, say what you like about Thatcher, but she certainly gave those unions what for!

Unions = membership organisation, precisely that (call it what you want), working for the benefits of its members

Thatcher's Britain, everyone for themselves

You believe too much that you read in the right wing press mate, and seem to be the reactionary monster you were so against in the everyone is being mugged threads.

Come the revolution you'll be first against the wall!
