It seems we have some imposters in our midst! I know the whoile point of the forum is that it's easy to use etc but what about setting up some kind of security regarding usernames? - ie - a username can only be used by one peson so that we don't have multiple posts by a myriad of baggy daves and newmans!

perhaps we should follow suit with the sydenham forum you have to be registered to post messages!

Fine by me - at least it would deter cretins such as the person who has been pretending to be me and Dave in the last few days.

Good ideas, something has to be done! I think this needs to be sorted. Surely people could log in as guests if they wanted to browse the discussions. They could also register if they wish to post. There is a mailing list, and we know the web team don't sell/pass on our e-mail addresses so people could be secure in the knowledge their info is safe and kept private. Seems unfair on the regular posters, who are putting up with these silly posts.

And before anyone asks, yes this is really me!

Hmm, registering, listed names.....all a bit control-freaky isnt it? It seems to me this is a very new problem and might be very transient one too. Why not let it ride and show the world the good burghers of Forest Hill do not possess thin skins?

It is frustrating when someone uses my name to write stupid messages. It's happened quite a few times recently - just cos I've got a popular name - so I would welcome this idea.

Yeah, it is frustrating when the village idiot hijacks your name and starts posting (presumably booze-induced judging by the times they were posted) messages. I don't see how setting up a username that can only be used by one person is control-freaky, TJ, but you do have a point - maybe the incidences of people using false names to post messages is a passing fad. If so, perhaps it would be better to keep things the way they are and only change them if things start to get out of hand.

You again...Whoever you are, you obviously think you're v. clever, but in actual fact you're an idiot and I'm not going to bother responding to you again. You see, TJ, this is why it might be a good idea to bring in some kind of username system.

Hmmm...

...lessons I've learned (having been impersonated)

this is a forum.
this isn't a boys club.
if you have nothing of value to add don't add anything.
too many people are negative and not constructive.

Ok. Is that it? Happy now?

This isn't a boy's club. If you have nothing of value to add don't add anything...

Get off your high horse, you patronising fool. Where do you get off telling people what this site is and isn't. I take it that you are the same moron who has been posting the fake messages which have had us all in stitches. If so, happy now that you've got that off your chest?

danny, don't recall ever telling anyone what they should or should not post on this site - the only thing I've done is take issue with the 'FH is full of muggers' brigade when they were taking over this site. Oh, the irony.

Perhaps the irony lay in your observation that "If you have nothing of value to add don't add anything...", an observation that many of us might heed.

Give me strength...My last comment on the matter...the good thing about this site is that it is free and open to all, paving the way for a wide range of viewpoints etc. Rather than moaning about certain posters, if you don't like what they have to say, skip their messages and move on to something that you want to read. Savvy?

finally, some sense newman. however, i would move on if i could find a post without boring quips and it had actual topics with threads, i would enjoy contributing and reading them. the muggings in se23 thread was of interest to me, as is recycling, parking, rag and bone, car boot, transport etc...etc..etc... if you disagree with anything at least make your argument valid mate.

savvy mate, savvy.

Looks like I touched a nerve there, Danny, or whatever you are calling yourself this week. Yeah, the muggings thread was riveting stuff, 'mate' - 'I saw a beggar the other day - awful people', 'drug dealers and muggers are everywhere', 'Who else thinks that FH is a rat infested hell hole?' etc etc. If you find many of the threads boring, why don't you start your own one, as I for one would be fascinated to hear your views on the area, 'mate'.

FTAO the webmaster...Any news about setting up some kind of security regarding usernames? For the most part, people seem to use this site in a responsible manner, but there are one or two idiots who keep posting under a variety of names, firstly to post laughably childish comments and now to ram home their point that they don't like certain people's posts. Would be interested to hear if you've decided to go ahead with some kind of registration system. Thanks.

Danny, you have nothing to say other than that you find a lot of the threads on this site boring. Firstly, ever thought of contributing something construtive yourself rather than picking holes in other people's comments? Secondly, you say that you would move on if you could find a thread without boring quips etc - if you find it all so boring and pointless, why are you even using this site, other than the fact that you obviously enjoy a good moan?
