First topic of conversation, has anyone else had a run in with a tramp called Simon? He hangs around the station with a bag of cans and tries to convince passers by that the Lord loves us all.

No I haven't come across him yet, but have come a guy who hangs around Sainsbury Local in his white van with him bonnet open and when you go to pull out of the petrol station he knocks on your window and tells you he has broken down and needs to get home and his short £1, being a trusty kinda girl I gave him the £1 however he was there again last night how sad is that!

No, it isn't...There was a thread along those lines but thankfully it dried up when Liz, Ronnie, Reggie, Stan the Slasher and Dan the Daggerman ran out of negative comments.

Simon doesn't appear to be interested in the old 'my Roller has broken down, can you lend me 20 p so I can call the AA?' ruse. He's more in to telling people that they are sinners and will burn for all eternity - just the kind of stuff you need to hear first thing in the morning.

Someone has been calling you a batty boy on another thread, Dave. Obviously the youth of today don't understand that blowing kisses at another man was all the rage in the good old days. And there's no point doing an Ali G impression - Dave doesn't know who he is.

What are you playing at, Dave? First of all you make amorous advances towards me and now you're blowing kisses at Adam. That may be how they behave on the posh estate, but on the vibrant side of town it is considered inappropriate to make kissing gestures at strangers. In fact, it would probably result in you being pursued by an angry mob baying for blood. Just thought I should warn you in case you ever stray in to downtown FH or whatever it's being called this week.

Look guys, this is a private thread, and I thought Hiltop was not included. This thread is about a group of like minded people wasting time winding each other up. The serious stuff, including all the moaning minnies, can be handled elsewhere. Jack, as much as I like you, please leave all the taunting from you and TJ to separate threads. And any others commenting about boring chat, well this is a private party and you were not invited.

Even I am aware of Ali G but not Batty Boy - although I've seen some stuff about a West End musical.

Now I am now starting to dream about SE23 com and my various new aquantancies. Agghhh. Pleased to see that it was the most popular thread of today though. I'll have to run into Linda Barker's heaving bosom for support and understanding (actually on the Dixons/Currys add the shop girl is more attractive).

If you don't hear anymore over the weekend it's because I'm doing my tax returns not because I am surveying the area looking for dog **** so I can rant and rave. If some bloke is in the Railway Telegraph shouting at the football on the telly on Saturday early evening it is not me - OK?

what happened to the good old days when I used to waste my time on e-bay?

PS - It think I know who you are Adam, or should I say red Adam....

Have no idea who posted that last message, but it wasn't me. I think we should cut Dave some slack, guys. He did, after all, start working down pit at the age of 14 and served in a number of wars. If he wants to spend his golden years downing veggie beer and making passes at complete strangers, who are we to criticise?

Some imbecile is posting comments under my name and now Dave's - at least, I take it that last post didn't come from you, Dave, as it's most un-Dave-like.

So, whoever you are, well done, extremely witty and clever, your mother must be very proud of you etc etc, but could you explain what 'I am Newman. I am red' actually means.

Last comment from "BaggyDave" nowt to do with me
After all the excitement of Friday I thought I'd wait until lunchtime to check on the goings on.

Thanks Newman, I'm getting to quite like you in a platonic way of course. And I'm even beginning to miss TJ (where are you?)

More comments on the "we hate your love-in" thread, but surprised and quite pleased we've created so much entertainment.

After a weekend off-line but actually having face to face conversations off to start a new, and surprisingly informative, thread.

Dave, Newman, pippa - I'm sure you're not bothered anyway, but wouldn't worry about this idiot who is posting messages under your names. We're not exactly talking Mensa material here, are we? They'll get bored sooner or later with their pathetic little game and go back to whatever it was that kept them amused before this, something along the lines of shouting at passers by in the street probably. I'm guessing that the culprit is mj or one of the other moaners - rather than engaging in intelligent debate, they have chosen to post silly messages under other people's names. Some people...

I am really getting bored of the person that keeps using other people's name to post messages, you are a sad and pathetic and need to get a life. I actually feel sorry for you. By the way I did not place the last notice re: coming round my house etc. SE23 admin i really think you should change the site so that people only have 1 log on name.

I'm bored with it already - hopefully he or she will go away. Meanwhile I've moved on from picking fights with TJ and love ins with Jack whilst promoting my posh estate. See Rockin FH.

Although I do use the I am Sparticus line occasionally.

And will of course respond to the real Newman and real TJ accordingly

Cookie, the imposter is an annoying little (insert insult of choice here), but I'm not losing any sleep over it, it has to be said. Am reluctant to speak for Dave through fear of him insulting my mother again, but it would appear that he is taking his usual 'it's nothing that a pint or two of veggie beer won't solve' approach to the matter.

Hey guys, I thought we were uniting behind a common enemy rather than have yet another go at Dave (the man who almost single handedly made this forum an exciting place to visit rather than a whinge shop). Amusing as you may all find it. I am now going off in a huff to cry in my veggie beer or visit more constructive threads where I can assist old ladies to cross roads, parents to find children's entertainment and celebs places to live in SE23. PS TJ is that the worst that you can throw at me? And Newman I'm surprised at you after my helpful comments earlier

BaggieDave I've been uniting myself behind a common enemy for ages. I just wanted to know whether I could smoke myself out any residents with double standards i.e. those who sat in their ivory-semis in Upper Dulwich Bottom sniffing disdainfully at the hoi-polloi in the non-comatose part of town, but slipping guiltily out nevertheless to enjoy the life and vibrancy that the other part of town had to offer. I think I've just hooked myself a fish and its wriggling wildly.....

Afternoon Jack, Newman, Pippa, Adam and TJ. Trust you all had a wildly exciting weekend, avoiding being mugged and doing lots of campaigning in your end of FH.

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday with the Barbour jacketed dog walkers in Sydenham Hill Woods. But what excitement, they have compacted the footpaths, including, wait for it, the former railway line. Could this be the start of them reconnecting the line, and hence re-establishing UDB as the place to be in SE23? I'm so thrilled I can hardly contain myself. Worth a separate thread here - what d'yer reckon?

Afternoon, Dave. Narrowly avoided being mugged on Saturday and was almost the victim of a drive by shooting on Sunday - and I only went out to get a pint of milk! What is FH coming to blah blah blah blah, moan moan moan moan, whinge whinge whinge.

Do we want these new guys who are worried about the lack of decent chocolate at Tescos to join our love-in? I am very worried about black marketeering and panic buying myself. United we stand etc so we'd better get these new guys on our side. Rumour is it that people also buy petrol at tescos, we'd better hurry up and fill out tanks before that runs out. A supermarket selling petrol - whatever next? What do you think TJ. TJ I'm talking to you.

Adam, I would love to have my milk delivered, but unfortunately due to the high level of crime that moaning Michelle and friends always enjoy bringing to our attention, there are no milk men prepared to brave the mean streets of se23. Leaving me at the mercy of the muggers and beggars. I suppose I could start drinking tea and coffee without milk, but then I would have one less thing to whinge about.

Newman, i'm sure that isn't the case. You might be interested to know there are now 2 armed response units based out of Lewisham Police stn (noted for being the largest in Europe, but that is probably another thread) perhaps because they have a lul about 4am, they could escort your milkman through. Just a thought? try giving them a call, if you can get through, due to all the people ringing up to report muggings :P)

Nothing of great interest currently for the hang um and flog um brigade althought that well dressed young geezer whose scooter has just "run out of petrol" is hanging around Tescos

But what happened to that great gang of people who used to hang around Safeways at Sydenham on a Saturday morning? - the guys dressed in black 3 piece suits and ranting and the women in sackcloth, looking very plain, obviously up to no good and no doubt one of us publicly spirited people got the authorities to run them out of town.

You think you've lost your touch, Dave? Thanks for the kind words, Adam. I was beginning to despair that this site was overrun with humourless whinge merchants. Following his comments of yesterday, I was also worried that Dave was about to give up on us all, climb in the nearest skip and start chucking veggie beer down his throat like there was no tomorrow. But I'm sure that he will now return with fire in his belly and put the world to rights once more...Earth calling Dave...Come in, Dave...

We never would have had rugby in the Moor Park Tavern, that's more of a DA thing isn't it. But a bit of quandry, a good working class pub in a posh estate (where incidentally Mr Cummin Up and family are local celebs), perhaps that's where it went wrong or maybe it (MPT) was just before its time.

Can anyone understand my point? I can't

But what the new set up shows is how popular I am, I have the last say on aroudn 15 threads, more than the rest of you put together. An my threads seem to attract the most attention.

Adam, I can report that the snow-covered vibrant side of town looks lovely - it's amazing how a bit of snow has brightened up the storage depot, the bins by the side of the Co-op and the vacant shop that used to sell martial arts videos - truly a glorious sight. On the downside, the muggers are now armed with snowballs, which makes it even harder than usual to get to the train station in one piece.

The Moor Park Tavern is a local pub for local people. So local that only really local people know about it. But the guys in the offie on Wood Vale are happy for us to sit outside and drink for a while, should the residents of the flats, formerly known at the Moor Park Hotel, object to us trying to enter or errecting a pub table outside.

For moaning minnies like Newman, they can of course join later on around SE23, but of course they wont get the satisfaction of doing all the pubs. Any suggestions of other pubs that now seem to bwe no longer trading will of course be given due consideration.

Faced with the reality of living in a posh estate which is pub free and no doubt jealous of the vibrant side of town's abundance of pubs and bars, he has convinced himself that the Moor Park Tavern is still open, when in fact it closed its doors in 1958. He now expects us to go along with this farce by reenacting a typical night at his local - i.e. standing outside what used to the MPT with a can of special brew purchased from the offie down the road.

Ganging up on me now eh?

Woodvale wines or whatever. Be there or your loss.

According to South East London Camra the Moor Park Tavern was alive and kicking in the early 90s. Having met some people who are still on this planet, alive and kicking may be an exageration (think going through a slow painful death is the best description).

Love to hear from someone who actually lives in the flats though. Is there still a beer cellar, can they get rid of the smell of smoke and nicotine stains, do they funish it in ex-public bar furniture and use beer towells to dry their washing up. Perhaps it is occupied by Bet Lynch, Frank, Angie, Den, and other TV publicans. Ho ho.

But Newman, the Moore Park Tavern was glitzy in its day, I wonder if Dave remembers HEMS - The London Air Ambulance landing in the graveyard opposite, after a guy was quite seriously stabbed in the MPT!

Now you don't get that on the vibrant side of town Newman!!!!

And before all the car theft/junkies/muggers moaners jump on the band wagon, this happened quite some years ago, mid 1990s!!!

Looking at other threads many of them have contributions from local councillors. And why not the ones that we get involved in? Should we change the name on the thread? And does our local MP, who lives somewhere in the so called 'posh estate' care about the lack of pubs, or want to join us on our crusade?

Really scraping the barrel here....

Dave, as BT notes on another thread, it has been a year now since Cllr Whiting said that the rest of Taymount Rise would be resurfaced 'during the summer' and still no action. So I wouldn't hold out too much hope of our esteemed elected officials springing in to action to tackle the posh estate's lack of pubs. I think the time has come to admit defeat and pick one of the many pubs/bars on the vibrant side of town as your new local. Pubs close down all the time, Dave, it's just an unfortunate fact of life. It's time to move on.

Thank you Newman for putting me right and explaning the meaning of life. I am forever in your debt. May I suggest recognition of your kind deeds in the civil honours list. And
perhaps you would wish to run in the next election to fight corruption and world hunger. You'd certainly get my vote.

Your humble servant

I don't know - you try and give people some helpful advice and they throw it back at you with a side order of sarcasm. BTW Dave, I am planning to run in the next election. Glad to hear that I've got your vote, as one of my manifesto pledges is to knock the posh estate down and put up more socially inclusive housing in its place. Along with a much needed pub.

I assume most of the former posters on this site have now moved to the Sydenham one. Here's something for them to consider.

Imagine my surprise when I went to my lovely local traditional ice cream parlour on Sydenham Road to find it had been knocked down and turned into a trendy bar. Then I turned round to get some petrol at the filling station to be confronted by two groups of youths having a mass brawl. I found to my shock that this was now a hand car wash centre. Subsequently I went to shop at the Italian Deli that I visited in the early 90s when few of us had heard of ciabata to be told that this was not Lordship Lane and everything for sale cost only a pound (and I could cash my cheque next door). In a fit of frustration I thought I'd visit one of the quaint pubs to be confronted by a mass of Burberry and piercings, and on enquiring at the Greyhound Hotel about what time the comedy started and which Blues groups were playing this week I was told by alco pop fuelled teenagers to clear off old git (or words to that effect). I dare not ask what had happened to the statues of greyhounds that once adourned the place. It was a good thing that they did not serve me as I found that I had no cash, and on crossing the road found that Barclays Bank was now selling mirrors. In total frustration I walked up the hill but passing by Upper Sydenham station found it had been turned into a house and that the line shut down 50 years ago. Think I've been here before....

[Actually there are some decent shops in Sydenham including the local romeo and an interesting shop selling impliments for smoking a certain herbal product)
