I've not lived in Forest Hill very long (sorry baggiedave, but I'm not a thoroughbred SE23er) so I haven't had time to explore yet.
What pubs in the area (not including Wetherspoons) do Sunday lunch?
I heard somewhere that the Foresters Arms does one, so I'll probably try that one day. And the cafe on Perry Vale looks like it does a decent one (but do I have the will power to not choose a fry-up?)
There must be some more places in the area.

Dulwich Woodhouse on the corner of Crescent Wood Road and Sydenham Hill isn't bad, provided you don't mind the hike up the hill.

Oo-er, my playbox will be well covered up thanks.
I will try that pub one day, depending on the weather I guess. Walking is fine with me, but maybe not my lazy friends.

My place does a good Sunday(nut) roast if Mandy, Toffee and Jack want to join me, unless they are dining at Hiltop General's of course, and they don't mind coming to the right side of the tracks

The Dartmouth Arms, the Malt Shovel, and The Clock House (Peckham Rye), are all good - different but good.

Cheers,

Dave: you've marked yourself down as one of the angry cycling vegan brigade. No doubt you spend your days bicycling round your hill-top estate, sandals flapping in the wind, intimidating innocent mums doing the school run in their 4x4s. And generous though your offer is I'm afraid I can only drink so many soya-milk sundaes. You should come down and chance your arm at a lager-and-lime at one of the People's Pubs.

These look like a whole string/conversation of unverifiable recommendations (or not) for local restaurants to me.

I've had messages deleted for similar - do they not convene the rules of this website and return it to the meaningless drivell it mainly is.

Learn how to spell drivel before posting your patronising remarks.

I don't see how T was being patronising. I'm always getting my messages deleted at the mere hint of a recommendation.

I was referring to his/her comment that this website consists mainly of meaningless drivel, a bit wide of the mark in my view. I find it a useful guide to life in the area and it's worth visiting the site for Dave and TJ's entertaining online spat alone.

I have to agree with you about the policy re. recommendations though. It does seem a bit inconsistent and I've also had posts deleted in the past.

I think it depends what the moderator's up to at the weekend. They'll probably be back to delete this whole thread by Monday.
It is inconsistent though.

Whilst I've got the chance...The Dartmouth Arms is fantastic and just what we've been waiting for.

Questions pub (previously the Malt Shovel)in Dartmouth Road do a lovely Sunday lunch. Also the Windmill Pub (previously a Wetherspoons pub, but not any more) do an enormous roast for £6.50 or thereabouts.

I was I trying to say was that, I find recommendations good and bad for local restaurants, pubs with DJs, builders, local gyms(to name but a few threads in very recent history) very useful, but equally find that anything meaningful usually gets deleted pretty quickly with little consistency.

Just be consistent with the rules .....!!

Having had a look at other strings - how is the advertising of/recommendations for a pet shop, boot sales, yoga classes, to name but a few - which are presumably not being run for charitable purposes - also allowed under the rules of the website.

Admittedly it's these things that make the strings relevant.

I totally agree. I'm considering creating a new blog/forum site for SE23. I'll let you all know if/when this happens.

Hey I didn't want any recommendations, I just wanted to know what pubs do Sunday Roast. Of course, I shouldn't have titled the thread 'Where's GOOD for a Sunday roast', but I can't do anything about that now.
Dartmouth Arms wasn't doing a Sunday roast when I walked past last week - 'open for brunch' the sign said.
Wanted to try the Foresters on Sunday but I had a minging cold, so it'll have to wait for another weekend.

The "open for brunch" sign is a bit of a misnomer - They do serve brunch but they also do a fantastic lunch, although not necessarily roasts - more the posh fish 'n' chips and bangers and mash variety of stuff on Sundays.

Thought I would stick up for the people behind this site as it's a bit unfair to keep criticising them. Whilst I agree that the position is a bit inconsistent re. recommendations, this is offset by the fact the site is free to access and you don't need to register to use it. Also, as I said in a previous post, it's a decent site with lots of useful info.

Me too - it´s a great local resource and I see no reason to change. Moderation has been a lot more relaxed of late, though I´m glad that it´s still kept free of rubbish, unlike other ´forums´.

T, you're right, it does seem to be a lot more relaxed of late - maybe they've taken some of our comments onboard.

Hello everyone, sorry not to have contributed recently, have you missed me? Disappointed that non of you jumped to my defence or joined in berating me, following yet another unprovoked attack by Toffee Jim on Saturday. TJ, was that you I saw in the People's pub (aka Railway Telegraph) on Sunday with your pipe, slippers and cardie watching the Everton match? Wouldn't suprise me.

And just to show that I can be helpful you can try several pubs in NE Forest Hill (aka East Dulwich/Lordship Lane) and the Crown and Greyhound in North Forest Hill (aka Dulwich Village) as they do (probably good) grub on a Sunday. My local, the Moor Park Taver/Hotel, sadly does not do food, or beer come to that, although I am planning a wake there in the summer (see Moor Park Tavern thread)
