I've heard it's going to be flats. Not particularly exciting, I'm afraid.

Does anyone know what's going on opposite the Railway Telegraph on Stansted Rd - seems to be quite a growth area down there!

I think the site opposite the Railway Telegraph is going to be one of those storage centres, like Big Yellow Self Storage or Shurguard. Nothing to get overly excited about unfortunately.

Is that the same Railway Telegraph that's in no danger of closing whatsoever? Unlike some ex-pubs we could name in the posh part of town......

I read that wrong and thought you said the Railway Telegraph was closing down. I was gutted for a second. That pub's right opposite my flat and I love it. Shepherd Neame is my favourite brewery. Plus it has a great jukebox.

And any Jukebox containing a song by Gram Parsons is formidable in my book.

ToffeeJim - what ex-pub do you mean?

Glad to hear that the Telegraph is still keeping the flame burning, so to speak, but the decent pub jukebox seems to be in drastic decline.

Maybe it's my bad luck, but most pubs nowadays have dispensed with the jukebox altogether in favour of playing music chosen by the bar staff or management, the kind of people who assume that everyone shares their love of Girls Aloud, Robbie Williams and Destiny's Child.

Pete: see earlier and lengthy thread on the ex-Moor Park Tavern/Hotel. Am slightly surprised not to have had our old friend Dave pop up on this thread yet. Perhaps his handlers have placed him under sedation for a day or two.

The Telegraph's jukebox is one of those new touch-screen jobs. Really good selection of Indie (Pixies, Teenage Fanclub) and 60s soul. Obviously there is some woeful dance music occasionally playing there, but it's pretty easy to steam in and bung £4 on to ensure a ChavMusic-free evening.

Not enough Bowie for my liking.
But I never in my life expected to see the Liars on a jukebox. I always expect the pub to empty when I put that on. But then I look around and see that it's already pretty empty.

I have to admit to being particularly fond of my clown pendant, ChavMeister.

My housemate and I can usually be found at about 11:05pm shrieking the chorus along to Walk Away Renee most weekday evenings in the Telegraph.

Mandy Playbox, the Liars on the jukebox...I'm impressed. It's a bit out of my way, but I will have to partake of a few pints there someday soon.

This thread seems to be a love in for those of you who really live in Catford, but aspire to SE23, no doubt propagated by my arch enemy Toffee Jim, who probably coming from Liverpool knows all about Adidas, Pringle and other casual wear (nee Chav wear). Please return to important matters on the Moorpark Tavern thread, which has been rather neglected at the mo. You know you want to....

Good to have you back, Dave.

Shouldn't really post this, as it's within minutes of your post and will no doubt reinforce TJ's belief that we are the same person, but what the heck...

I think this thread's a bit more popular Baggie"Johnny-no-pubs"Dave because it's about a real pub, even if it is amongst us down-to-earth folk on the other side of the railway tracks. I expect you lot from the posh estate on top of the hill like going to drink your lager-and-limes at the Dulwich Harvester whilst reassuring each other how "wonderful" it is not to have a jukebox.

Let's face it you're nowt but a north-Londoner

Toffee! I am not happy to be included in your "other side of the railway tracks" inferences. I am definitely one of those from the other side of the tracks who loves the new gastropub and any other exciting improvement.

Now I am getting paranoid – or is it schizophrenic – my contributions are so important that they are being entered twice.

Toffee – laying down the gauntlet again. I don’t really believe you come from Liverpool, more of a plastic scouser originating from the Home Counties (the Good Life or Terry and June territory).

Credentials on the table – I drank in the Sydenham Greyhound when Vic Reeves compared the comedy club, the Golden Lion when we were entertained by men with hatchets in the car park, the various gangster pubs on Wells PArk before rap and bling became the norm and even remember the Telegraph when it was a proper pub with two bars. People like you should return back to Rickmansworth or Watford or wherever you are from – the only good use for the M25 (and make it one way).

Now that I have got that off my chest howabout returning to important matters like train overcrowding and what are Sainsbury’s going to do next (but they have some lovely new lines in organic halloumi don’t they pals?!)

Gregory: not sure where you're coming from mate. Dave's been bemoaning the loss of a pub that shut ten years ago because his estate was too posh to live with it any longer. If what you are saying is that you're a man that enjoys drinking lager and limes at the Dulwich Harvester then good luck to you. And you'll probably bump into Dave in there. I don't remember the gastro-pub being mentioned at all in this thread. But when you do next pop in there could you have a word about what they've done with their bar-billiards table please? It seems to have disappeared.

Dave: We've all done our "tours of duty" in our time. Some of us still do them. And I'd always assumed Terry and June was filmed up on your posh estate. I'm sure your residents association will be able to point you in the right direction on this.

Anyone seen the graffiti on the boards around this development? Looks really good, does anyone know if it was commissioned?
