I would be interested in hearing from any people who know why someone , presumably the freeholder , seems to have banned residents from parking on the internal roads of Vale Lodge.
There are notices up saying cars will be clamped.
This has caused a parking problem on Dacres Road where there was not one before.
I cannot see any reason why residents should not be allowed to park again internally where there is a great deal of space.
Can anyone throw any light on this please

yes as one of the leaseholders I can confirm that the freeholder has imposed excessive parking charges on residents - so much that no one seems to have taken up the permits. The level of charges is being contested by some of us however the principle is sound as too many non residents were parking there and cars were being dumped and having to be removed at our expense.

Hi Carol
Thanks for the explanation.
Surely they can still stop non residents by giving residents a permit will a small admin charge.
As for cars being dumped I cannot see the new scheme would have any affect at all. A threat of a fine and being towed away would hardly scare a person wanting to dump a car.
Anyway good luck with your challenge to the scheme

I think they also want to raise some money for themselves and are not interested in the problems faced by the residents hence an annual charge of £300. The repossession companies check the last registered keeper of the car before taking them away and simply send them the bill and the subsequent court order if not paid.

Lewisham Council will remove an abandoned vehicle free of charge. Telephone 020 8314 7171.

Hi Carol
I agree. But I would like to go back to my original point how is this going to deter people from dumping cars in Vale Lodge. It might even have the reverse result.

Can't the development be gated?

The reason cars are banned and extortionate fees introduced is quite simple. There were many dumped and stolen vehicles left in the private roadway within the confines of Vale Lodge. The cost to remove such vehicles is between £150.00 and £250.00 depending on whether the car has been stolen or dumped. If these vehicles were left on puplic roads the council or police would have them removed. But because they are on private ground the leaseholders has to bare all costs. So parking fees were introduced to cover such costs. If freeholders or leaseholders do not want to pay these fees,as I said earlier there will simply be no parking.

There is no such thing as a free tow away service of dumped or stolen cars from private property.

Hi Steve
I think someone has missed the point.
People dumping cars will not mind about this charge. Surely this will be unaffected.
I pass Vale Lodge quite often and see at the most one car when there used to be 15 or 20, I would not think revenue from one car would pay for the scheme, especially as I assume wardens are paying
regular visits.
Only result is congestion in Dacres Road.

Whilst the situation may not please local residents, it is perfectly legal to park on the roadway, and in any case, the only people who can change the situation are those who live in Vale Lodge.

Hi Elizabeth
I agree. But I am just wondering about the financial costs of imposing charging and monitoring it against revenue.
I have walked through Vale Lodge 3 times over the weekend. Two cars were there on all occasions. The same two.

Wouldn't that solve the problem? Has this been explored?
